Chapter 1239: We Agree
Cassie felt a knot in her stomach as she glanced nervously at Dermot.
"Evelyn wants you to talk, so spill it," Dermot said, his voice dripping with affection for Evelyn. Cassie felt a stab of jealousy but shoved it aside.
Taking a deep breath, she said, "I want you to spare the Bush family."
Dermot laughed, "Why would I care about what you want?"
"Dermot, I know you hate me and my brother right now. If it weren't for him, you wouldn't be in this mess," Cassie said, biting her lip.
She looked at Dermot and continued, "But my brother worked for you for years. Please, forgive him."
Cassie braced herself and said, "And I've had a rough life since I was a kid. You know how the Ackers family treated me. I always dreamed of being rich so I wouldn't have to suffer."
"Dermot, I know you won't just let the Bush family off the hook, but could you... I mean, leave us a little bit so we don't have to go back to square one."
She never wanted to keep all the Bush family's assets, just a bit to get by. Even if the Bush family fell from the top ten in Golombia, she didn't care.
Cassie's words had a ring of truth, and Dermot listened.
Though he hated being lied to, he was still grateful for the years Leonard served as his bodyguard.
Back then, he was young and faced many dangers. Apart from Leonard's fake death at the end, Leonard had actually protected him from many threats before that.
He once genuinely treated Cassie like a sister and felt sorry for her.
Dermot didn't speak, but Evelyn already knew what he was thinking.
She looked at Cassie and made the call for Dermot. "We might consider sparing you, but from now on, you and Leonard must stay out of Golombia. Dermot and I will buy Leonard’s shares in the Bush Group at market price. The money should be enough for both of you to live comfortably for the rest of your lives."
Cassie was stunned. She had hoped to keep part of the Bush Group’s assets for a steady income.
But clearly, Evelyn wasn't giving them that chance.
"If I were you, I'd agree quickly. Otherwise, those shares in Leonard's hands will eventually be worthless, and you won't get a dime. Instead, you'll end up with millions in debt," Evelyn said, rolling her eyes. If it weren't for Dermot's bit of mercy, she wouldn't have let Leonard and Cassie off so easily.
Cassie didn't dare to hesitate any longer. "Okay, we agree."
After all, having enough money to live comfortably for the rest of their lives was good enough.
"I'll leave now," Cassie said, knowing they didn't want her around. She didn't want to stay and risk them changing their minds.
After Cassie left, Dermot finally spoke, "Just let them go like that?"
"Not exactly letting them go. After all, they won't get much in the end. Losing the entire Bush Group should be enough to make them suffer." The Bush family was one of the top ten families in Golombia.
If Leonard hadn't made foolish decisions, he wouldn't have ended up like this.
