Chapter 1125: Why Did You Bring Me Here
After a moment of awkward silence, Joshua finally blurted out, "Was it Dermot who took you away?"
"Yeah," Evelyn admitted without hesitation. They were already out of Ameriland, and even if Joshua wanted to chase them, he wouldn't catch up.
"So, he won in the end," Joshua said with a bitter smile. No matter how hard he tried, Dermot was always more important to Evelyn.
Evelyn frowned a bit. "Neither of you won. I'm not some prize to be won."
"That's not what I meant..."
"Joshua, this is the last time I'll call you like this, and the last time I'll contact you. And I hope you won't contact me either. It's for the best," Evelyn said, her voice cold but firm.
She didn't want Joshua to keep holding onto feelings for her; it would only cause more problems.
Joshua felt like he'd been punched in the gut. "I get it."
"Good," Evelyn nodded. "Let's just live our own lives."
"Alright, take care." Joshua hung up, not even trying to convince her to stay. He knew it was pointless.
Even if he suggested they stay friends, Evelyn wouldn't go for it now.
From the moment he forced her to stay on that island, their relationship had changed forever.
Maybe from the moment he planned to kidnap her, hoping her injuries would keep her with him, they were doomed.
In Britannica, Evelyn was still sitting on the big hotel bed.
On a whim, she had decided to call Joshua and end their years-long relationship.
After this call, she would have no more regrets, treating everything as a thing of the past.
But looking around, she felt a bit of a headache.
When Dermot got on the plane, he didn't tell her they weren't going back home but were heading to Lundel in Britannica.
The doorbell rang, and Evelyn got up to open the door, finding Dermot standing there.
"Why'd you bring me here? We should head back; Aidan and Niall must be worried sick," Evelyn said as she walked back into the room.
Dermot smiled. "Don't worry; I've already informed them."
Evelyn pouted but didn't argue. "Why'd you bring me here?"
"You studied here, right?" Dermot asked.
Evelyn nodded. She had done her PhD here, so she knew the city well.
"Then why not show me around? Since we're already here, no rush to go back," Dermot smiled, wanting some alone time with her.
But he was different from Joshua.
If Evelyn didn't want to, Dermot wouldn't force her. He'd book a flight back immediately.
Evelyn looked out the window and saw the Cybersteel Tower. "Alright, since you saved me, I can be your tour guide for a couple of days."
She had been wondering how to thank Dermot, and this seemed like a good way.
Besides, she hadn't been here in years and missed it a bit.
So, they changed clothes, had breakfast at the hotel, and headed toward the famous Cybersteel Tower.
Evelyn was surprised by his interest. "You're into this? There's not much to see."
"Traveling is just about moving from places you're done with to places others are done with. Let's go," Dermot insisted.
Seeing his determination, Evelyn agreed. After all, she was just a 'tour guide' now, and whatever Dermot said, went.
