Chapter 1250: They Should All Start Anew
Ruby was camped out by Alex's bedside, mumbling to herself for what felt like forever. It wasn't until the sun dipped below the horizon that Alex finally stirred.
"Ruby?" He blinked, spotting her tear-streaked face. "Why the waterworks? Who messed with you?"
Dude had no clue about his own mess. Seeing Ruby cry, his first instinct was to worry about her.
Ruby's eyes got even puffier, and she muttered with a mix of sass and sadness, "Who else but you, dummy?"
"Me?" Alex was floored. He tried to sit up, but his body screamed in protest.
Ruby rushed to keep him down. "Chill, just rest."
Alex sighed, feeling stuck. He wanted to move, but his body wasn't having it.
"My bad for making you worry." Alex pieced together the events and got why Ruby was a wreck.
He'd been reckless, not expecting the gang to straight-up kidnap him.
Ruby bit her lip, trying to keep it together. "No need to say sorry."
"Ruby."
"I'm not mad." She looked dead serious. "I get your dreams, so I'm with you."
Now it was Alex's turn to get misty-eyed. "Ruby, I..."
"Just be more careful next time, okay? Don't go putting yourself in danger." She couldn't stop him from chasing his goals, but she hoped he'd be safer about it.
Alex nodded, feeling all the feels. "I will. I swear this won't happen again."
"Good." Ruby smiled.
They hugged it out. Upstairs, after dropping off food for Craig, Dermot and Evelyn bounced from the hospital.
Craig didn't need a babysitter, and Ruby was with Alex, so they had no reason to stick around.
"What's Craig's deal?" Alone with Dermot, Evelyn wasted no time asking.
Dermot chuckled. "You really think Craig's gonna sue Ruby?"
"Who knows?" Evelyn pouted. What if Craig tries to use it to rope Ruby back in?
"Chill, he won't blame her. And he won't bug Ruby anymore." Dermot reassured her.
Evelyn was taken aback. "For real?"
"You said they were even. So Craig's got no reason to keep hassling Ruby." Dermot said, pulling Evelyn close.
After seeing so many breakups, he knew how hard it was to be with the one you love.
Evelyn didn't know what was on his mind, but hearing that Craig was backing off made her happy.
"That's for the best. They need their own lives. If they can't be together, they shouldn't drag each other down." Evelyn said, hopping into Dermot's car.
The car started, but they didn't head straight home. After today's drama, Dermot wasn't feeling like cooking.
They hit up their favorite restaurant instead. Once they were settled, Dermot finally spoke, "Their drama's over. You can stop stressing."
"Yeah." She'd been worried Craig wouldn't let it go and would mess with Ruby and Alex.
But now it seemed like that wasn't gonna happen.
This was good. They all needed a fresh start.
