Chapter 803 I'm Afraid I Might Disappoint You
The Kyte family's dinner was held half a month after Blake's discharge day. By then, he had mostly recovered, but even so, he was far from his former self.
At the banquet hotel, in the lounge, Evelyn wore a light blue custom-made gown. Paired with her long, wavy curls, she looked so stunning that it was hard to look away.
However, there wasn't much joy on her face. She knew the purpose of today's banquet.
"Dad, you're at your prime age. You can continue to manage the company. There's no need to hand it over to me now." Evelyn, being unfamiliar with company management, would likely opt to bring in professional managers to oversee its operations, which made Blake's decision pointless.
Blake sat beside her, not getting angry at her words. "I'm old. After this incident, I suddenly realized a few things."
He added, "I used to think there was plenty of time that I could wait to find your mother later. But now I understand that accidents come faster than one can imagine, so I don't want to wait any longer."
Now that he and Dora were divorced, the only thing he wanted to do was to find Evelyn's mother.
It was his obsession, and Evelyn knew it well.
She said, "I'm just afraid of disappointing you."
Handing the Kyte Group over to her overwhelmed her.
Even though they said she wouldn't have to manage it herself, could she really ignore it once she took over? Could she still be as free as she was now?
The answer was definitely no.
Blake reached out and patted her head lovingly, saying, "Don't worry. The people I've chosen for you are very capable. With them around, the Kyte Group will be fine."
He continued, "Even if the Kyte Group really goes under, the assets I've saved for you over the years are enough for you to live lavishly for a lifetime."
He didn't have much personal wealth because he had transferred all his assets to Evelyn. In terms of individual wealth, she now far surpassed her peers in Golombia.
"Alright then." She nodded, understanding that there was no room for negotiation at this point.
Noting her lingering discontent, Blake continued, "Joshua has been working at the Kyte Group for half a month now. He's very capable. With him there, you should feel even more at ease."
He had arranged Joshua to manage one of the Kyte Group's departments, partly to test his abilities and partly to give him some experience.
If Joshua could really win Evelyn over, he would also gain the recognition of everyone at the Kyte Group. By then, it didn't matter to give him the position of general manager.
Thinking of Joshua made Evelyn even more annoyed.
Blake patted her. "Don't overthink it. Just go with the flow. I'm not rushing you."
She replied, "Okay."
Soon, the banquet hall was bustling with people, with almost the entire high society of Golombia in attendance.
Most people could guess the purpose of the banquet today, but they were curious about why Blake had suddenly made this decision. Some of them even wondered if his health was really failing.
Many people came with probing intentions. After all, if he was really in bad shape, it might spark other thoughts. How capable could Evelyn be, having just taken over the Kyte Group?
Dermot and Margaret also arrived at the venue. He kept a stern face, looking unapproachable, while Margaret beside him maintained a constant smile.
“Dermot, cheer up. People might think we have a big grudge against the Kyte family for your expression,” Margaret said as she tugged at his sleeve with a smile.
