Chapter 1150: Fate's Trick

Henry sneered a few times before finally letting Dermot go, but not without a few stern warnings.

When Dermot got downstairs, he saw Evelyn sprawled out on the living room sofa, glued to her phone, probably chatting with someone. She had this big smile on her face.

"What's got you grinning like that?" Dermot asked, strolling over and standing behind her.

Evelyn didn't even flinch. She kept typing away and said, "Just talking with Ruby and Sarah about bridesmaid dresses. They gotta look good but not steal the bride's thunder."

"Any luck? Lemme see." Dermot shook his head, thinking about how women have a million dress options while guys just throw on a black suit. Easy peasy.

Evelyn handed him her phone. "What do you think of this one?"

Dermot squinted at the screen. It was a long green dress. He glanced at Evelyn, thinking it would probably look pretty good on her.

"Eh, it's alright. Not amazing, but not terrible either." He figured it was perfect since it wasn't Evelyn's big day.

Evelyn nodded. "Yeah, something simple like this is better."

Even though Sarah said she didn't care what they wore, Evelyn felt Sarah should be the star of her own wedding. She and Ruby, as bridesmaids, should just complement her.

"So, what did Henry want?" Evelyn asked, putting her phone away.

Dermot sighed and plopped down next to her. "What else? He just warned me to stay away from Cassie. He's probably worried you and I might split again."

"Serves you right. You were such a jerk to me back then." Evelyn snorted, kinda glad Henry gave Dermot a piece of his mind. She used to think Dermot had a thing for Cassie.

But that was then. Now, she was just seeing how things played out.

Dermot got serious and looked at her. "Do you really think I divorced you because of Cassie?"

"Honestly, yeah, I did think that when we split." Evelyn didn't sugarcoat it.

Dermot rubbed his temples. "Look, the only reason I wanted a divorce was 'cause I was totally against Grandpa's arranged marriage. I never even thought about falling for you, to be real."

If Dermot had known he'd fall for Evelyn, he wouldn't have gone through with the divorce.

"I get it." Evelyn nodded. "But I was actually doing pretty well back then."

Even though Dermot didn't come back, she still held her own as the Doyle family's mistress, and with Henry's support, she lived comfortably.

"Yeah, I heard you were living it up at Doyle Mansion, having a blast every day, no worries." Back then, Evelyn probably didn't think about liking him either.

So, for those two years, he never went to see Evelyn, and she never came to find him.

In a way, they were the same; neither of them loved the other.

Evelyn could keep going, but Dermot couldn't. He was dead set on finding true love.

Who would've thought the one he missed was his true love?

"Let's drop it; it's all in the past." Evelyn laughed, waving her hand, feeling a bit embarrassed.

Fate sure has a funny way of messing with people!
