Chapter 895 I Think He Suits You Better

Dermot didn't care. It wasn't really his fault; it was just a matter of mutual benefit.

"You don't think that by blaming Gerald's death on the Martin family, Randy will let you off the hook, do you?"

Joshua laughed. To him, it didn't matter who killed Gerald. What mattered was that Dermot couldn't stay alive because Randy didn't want to hand over the Doyle family to him.

Dermot smiled, unconcerned. "Whether Randy lets me go is his problem. Surviving is mine. You don't need to worry."

Joshua snorted, "If I wasn't worried about Evelyn, would I care? You should know your situation. The closer you get to Evelyn, the more danger she's in. Do you really think the head of the Doyle family is a good guy?"

Joshua thought if Dermot really liked Evelyn, he should stay away from her to protect her.

Dermot got it but knew backing down now would ruin his chances with Evelyn and give Joshua an opportunity.

After a pause, Dermot said, "I'll protect Evelyn."

He thought, 'I won't let Evelyn get hurt. If by any chance...'

Dermot gritted his teeth, refusing to think further.

"Easy for you to say that. You're living off the Doyle family. How are you going to protect Evelyn?" Joshua doubted Dermot could protect her, especially when facing Randy, whom he had no ability to resist.

Dermot shot Joshua a cold look. "That's still better than you. Can you protect Evelyn? I bet you don't even dare tell her your true identity."

Though Dermot's situation was dangerous, it was temporary. Once he took over the Doyle family, the danger would vanish.

But Joshua was different. He had countless enemies. If they knew his true identity, they'd have found him by now.

Joshua was furious but couldn't argue because he knew his situation was dangerous.

He had already decided that if he won Evelyn over, he'd quit being a mercenary and start fresh in the country.

He didn't think Dermot needed to know that.

In the kitchen, Evelyn was picking vegetables while Aidan prepped ingredients. Seeing her quiet, Aidan felt guilty and spoke first, "I'm sorry, Evelyn. I didn't mean to..."

"I know, Aidan. You just want to set me up with Joshua, right?" Evelyn smiled, understanding Aidan's intentions.

Aidan nodded. "Yeah, I just think Joshua is better for you."

"Why? You've only known Joshua recently. Why do you think he's better for me?" Evelyn asked, puzzled.

Aidan was at a loss. He just thought anyone but Dermot would be fine.

Seeing him silent, Evelyn understood. "Aidan, you just don't like Dermot, do you?"

"Dermot isn't right for you. Have you forgotten how he treated you before?" Aidan said, a bit agitated. He knew his words would upset Evelyn but stood by his opinion.

Evelyn stopped and looked at him. "What if I like Dermot, Aidan? What would you do?"
