Chapter 1241: Got Distracted

"Man, back in the day, I was hanging with Dermot while he was hitting the books overseas. We were pretty much the same age, so he didn't treat me like some lackey. That's how I got to know Ava too."

"Not sure how she figured out I was back with the Bush family, but she did. She hit me up asking about Dermot," Leonard said.

Evelyn's heart dropped. Ava asking about Dermot? Was she trying to be his girl?

Totally possible. Dermot wasn't the same old student anymore.

"I only talked to her once, and she ghosted me after that. No clue where she is now, but I got a hunch she's back for Dermot. Just giving you a heads-up." Leonard finished and bounced.

Evelyn watched him leave, her mind spinning.

She'd never met Ava, but she'd heard about her. She figured they'd cross paths eventually.

She sighed, feeling all kinds of annoyed.

Couldn't really blame Dermot. Ava hadn't even shown up yet. If she flipped out on Dermot for no reason, that'd be on her.

She sat in the coffee shop, lost in thought. Meanwhile, Leonard hopped into the car. Cassie saw him and asked, "Leonard, why'd you bother telling Evelyn about Ava?"

"We're outta here soon. Dermot and Evelyn think they can ride off into the sunset? Not happening," Leonard sneered.

Ava had come to see him, but she didn't ask about Dermot at all. He just stirred the pot on purpose.

He couldn't get back at those two, but he sure as hell didn't want them happy.

"Leonard, was that really necessary? We're leaving," Cassie said, shaking her head. She thought it was pointless and might stir up more drama if Dermot found out.

Leonard waved her off. "Enough, let's roll. Time to board."

"Alright." Cassie nodded and told the driver to go. As they left, she glanced at Evelyn still sitting in the coffee shop, feeling a mix of emotions.

After all that went down, she didn't hate Evelyn as much anymore.

Now with Ava in the picture, who knew what kind of mess Evelyn and Dermot would have to wade through to be together.

But that was none of her business now. If nothing crazy happened, they'd never see each other again.

Cassie thought to herself, 'Later, Evelyn. Later, Dermot.'

That evening, Dermot came to pick up Evelyn from work like always, but he could tell she was off.

"What's up?" Dermot asked, a bit worried.

Evelyn shook her head, pulling herself together. "Nothing, just some small stuff."

"Something at the hospital?" Dermot asked.

"Yeah," Evelyn replied, brushing it off.

Dermot didn't push. He couldn't help with hospital stuff, and Evelyn didn't want him to.

"What do you want for dinner?" Dermot asked, trying to lighten the mood.

Evelyn glanced at him but didn't dig deeper, not wanting to seem unreasonable.

Did Ava really not hit up Dermot?

Since she reached out to Leonard, would she really not contact Dermot?

Evelyn found it hard to believe.

"Evelyn?" Dermot frowned, sensing something was up. "What's wrong? Something happen?"

"Nothing, just daydreaming 'cause you're so handsome," Evelyn said with a smile, convincing herself to trust Dermot.

Dermot chuckled. "You always know how to make me smile."
