Chapter 1173: It's a Woman
Debra didn't spill the beans about the news, just gave Evelyn this hopeful look.
Evelyn sighed and let Howard check her out again. "Alright, spill it. What's the news?"
Debra leaned in, "The person who called me to take care of him was a woman."
A woman? Now that was some juicy info.
Evelyn and her crew bounced outta there fast. She was so deep in thought she didn't even notice when Blake woke up.
"Evelyn? What are you doing here?" Blake rubbed his throbbing head, thinking he was seeing things.
By the time he spoke, they were already at the villa. Evelyn didn't say a word, just opened the car door. "Let's chat inside."
Blake nodded and, with Howard's help, stumbled into the villa.
Evelyn told Howard to tighten up the villa's security and get more staff. She had this gut feeling that things were far from over.
Once everything was set, Evelyn turned to her dad. "Alright, spill it. What the heck happened?"
Blake was quiet for a bit before he finally laid it all out.
When Blake hit Seabrook City, he started hunting for Bella but came up empty. Just like Howard warned, he dodged a bunch of assassination attempts. This only made him more sure Bella was in Seabrook City and he was close to the truth. Why else would someone wanna off him?
But he still had zilch. The day he vanished, he was just walking when he saw a face that was a dead ringer for Bella's. Without thinking, he chased after her.
He followed her into an alley, but she vanished. Just as he was about to lose it, someone clocked him on the back of the head, and he blacked out.
Next thing he knew, he woke up to see Evelyn.
"So, you were out cold the whole time you were missing?" Evelyn asked.
Blake nodded, and Evelyn frowned.
It seemed like that woman kept him knocked out on purpose. But why?
Evelyn couldn't wrap her head around it and found it super weird.
She didn't say anything, and Blake felt kinda bad. "Sorry for all the trouble."
"Dad, don't sweat it. You're my dad; of course, I'd come to save you," Evelyn said, clearly annoyed and wanting to switch topics. "Let's figure out who knocked you out and why they told me to come get you. Doesn't that seem kinda extra?"
Blake nodded but had his own take. "Evelyn, I think she wasn't trying to hurt me. Maybe she was looking out for me."
"Oh? How do you figure?"
"I just told you, didn't I? I've dodged a few assassination attempts lately. If I kept digging, they'd probably keep coming. Maybe she knocked me out to keep me safe," Blake reasoned.
Evelyn thought about it and saw some sense in it. "So, when she knew I was in Seabrook City, she called me to pick you up, hoping I'd get you outta here?"
"Yeah, that's what it looks like," Blake nodded, more convinced.
Evelyn thought it made sense but still didn't get why. "Why would she do that? Does she know you? Why help you?"
She didn't buy the whole help-without-a-reason thing. If they didn't know who this woman was, Evelyn thought that even if she helped Blake, she might still be a threat.
