Chapter 546 Worried about me?
During her convalescence in the hospital, Evelyn had received several calls from Blake, primarily questioning her absence from the Kyte residence. She deflected his inquiries with a nebulous excuse, and he did not probe further. "I intend to return to Moris City tomorrow. Would you have some time to spare?" Evelyn inquired. Her affairs in Colombia had reached their conclusion, and it was high time she returned to manage her business in Moris City. On the other end of the line, Blake appeared to be consulting his secretary about his schedule before responding, "I can manage, but my stay will be brief. The company demands much of my attention." "Very well, a mere three or four days. It won't be overly long," Evelyn assured him. They concurred to journey together, and Blake, ever cautious, arranged his private jet ahead of time. Given his status, every step had to be meticulously planned. Private jets were not merely a luxury for him, but a necessary security measure. Upon Evelyn's return to the Kyte residence, she found Dora and Lucia already present. Their guilt-ridden expressions were plainly visible as she entered. Despite their best efforts to conceal it, Evelyn detected it immediately. The culprit had managed to evade capture, even with Kevin's intervention. After all, he was a professional. Once he discerned that Evelyn was beyond his reach, he made a timely escape. If a man of his caliber decided to flee, Kevin was powerless to stop him. Particularly since Evelyn had been unconscious at the time, it was impractical for Kevin to give chase. Without apprehending the perpetrator, they lacked evidence. Even though Evelyn was certain that these two women were the instigators, she was currently unable to act. 'But that doesn't mean I'll let it slide,' she thought. 'They are dependent on the Roberts family, aren't they? That's precisely where I'll begin. Toppling such a formidable family is nearly impossible for me. However, causing them some trouble is well within my capabilities. At the very least, I can keep the Roberts family sufficiently distracted to leave Dermot and me in peace. Sigh… Why do I keep thinking about Dermot?' Evelyn found herself preoccupied with thoughts of him. After his apology that day, Evelyn had expected him to reach out to her, but he had not. There had been no communication between them for several days. She hadn't sought him out either. If Dermot wished to see her, he would make the effort. There was no merit in forcing the issue. Returning to the present, she directed her attention to Dora and Lucia, "Good afternoon, ladies." They offered no response, remaining on guard in her presence. "There's no need for such tension. I have no intention of causing you any harm. After all, this is the Kyte residence. Even if I were to act, I wouldn't be so audacious," Evelyn stated, her smile failing to alleviate the tension. Dora, restraining Lucia from any potential outburst, questioned, "Evelyn, what are you implying? We were concerned for you when you didn't return home these past few days." "You were worried about me?" Evelyn laughed as though she'd heard an amusing joke, "Worried that I might survive, is that it?" "Heh," Dora chuckled dryly, maintaining her pretense of ignorance, "Why would you assume such a thing? Your sister and I are genuinely concerned for your safety. We're family, after all. Why would we wish any harm upon you? Evelyn, I understand you harbor some resentment towards me. I don't fault you for it, but some matters are best left unspoken. We wouldn't want to distress your father. His days are filled with enough burdens as it is. You wouldn't want to add to his stress, would you?" If Evelyn were to utter something inappropriate in Blake's presence, even without concrete evidence, it could potentially arouse his suspicions. Therefore, it was in her best interest to remain silent when Blake was present. Only then could Dora truly relax.
