Chapter 1140: I'm Just a Freeloader
"When do you and Dermot plan to get married?" Ruby naturally shifted the topic to the two of them, then suddenly added, "No, you should be getting remarried."
Evelyn was speechless.
"Not anytime soon." At least for now, Evelyn wasn't ready for marriage.
"I really envy you guys. Some are getting married, some are dating, while I'm still single." Ruby sighed with a hint of melancholy.
Evelyn didn't comfort her; instead, she rolled her eyes. "If you want to date, there are plenty of people willing. However, do you want to?"
"I do." She just wanted a normal, healthy relationship, not like the one she had with Craig before.
"Then try with Alex," Evelyn suggested.
Ruby pouted and mumbled, "We'll see. Who knows if he even likes me? I don't want to be wishful thinking."
"Suit yourself, as long as you don't regret it." Although Ruby was her good friend, Evelyn couldn't make decisions for her. Matters of the heart had to be handled personally.
The two chatted as they shopped, and before long, they had bought quite a few things. The afternoon passed quickly.
As it started to get dark, Ruby guessed that Dermot was about to get off work and said, "I'll head back now. I don't want to interrupt your date with Mr. Doyle."
"Oh come on. Let's have dinner together." Evelyn thought it was no big deal, and Dermot wouldn't mind either.
Ruby was pulled along by her and couldn't leave for the moment. "I'm just afraid of being a third wheel."
"If you keep saying that, I'll get mad." Evelyn pretended to be upset. She wasn't the type to ignore friends for a boyfriend.
Ruby didn't insist. "Alright, I'll join you for dinner, but I promise not to talk much."
Soon, Dermot arrived. Upon seeing Ruby there, he had no objections and asked Evelyn, "What do you want to eat?"
"I'm fine with anything. You decide." Evelyn couldn't think of anything specific she wanted to eat at the moment.
Dermot looked at Ruby and asked, "What about you?"
"I'm easy. Mr. Doyle, you guys decide. I'm just tagging along for a meal." Ruby quickly replied, feeling a bit intimidated in front of Dermot.
Dermot glanced at her and then said, "Since you're Evelyn's friend, you're my friend too. Just call me Dermot from now on, no need to be so formal."
Ruby was flattered. The last time Evelyn and Dermot were together, he hadn't said that to her.
It seemed he had really changed.
"Let's have Gaulor cuisine then," Dermot decided, and both Evelyn and Ruby agreed.
The three of them walked into a Gaulor-style restaurant. Evelyn and Dermot had been there before, so they were familiar with it.
It was Ruby's first time there. She usually worked and didn't have much time to dine at such places.
As soon as they sat down, Evelyn's phone rang. It was Sarah calling. "Sarah."
"Evelyn, have you eaten yet?" Sarah's voice came through, and even over the phone, her laughter was audible.
"We're eating now. What about you?" Evelyn asked.
Sarah was surprised to hear they were eating. "I was going to invite you to dinner. Who are you eating with?"
"Ruby and Dermot," Evelyn replied.
On the other end, Sarah seemed to be discussing something with someone nearby. Soon, Evelyn heard her say, "Where are you guys? We haven't eaten yet either. Can we join you?"
Evelyn didn't answer directly but looked at Ruby and Dermot. "Sarah wants to join us. Keith will probably come, too."
"Sure," Ruby said without thinking, then felt a bit embarrassed since she was also tagging along.
Dermot nodded. "It's up to you."
Evelyn smiled and then gave Sarah the address, waiting for the two of them to arrive.
