Just as Hubert was feeling triumphant, someone suddenly patted him on the shoulder, startling him.
He turned around and saw that it was Evelyn, which startled him even more. "When did you get here?"
"I've been here for a while," Evelyn said.
"This has nothing to do with you. Leave," Hubert said, holding onto Lucia. Even with Evelyn's appearance, he had no intention of letting Lucia go.
Evelyn glanced at the two of them. Lucia hung her head, feeling utterly ashamed.
"Mr. Diaz, Lucia is my sister after all. Do you think I would leave?" Of course, the sister part was a lie, but she couldn't really let Hubert have his way.
If Lucia ended up being controlled by Hubert, then the Allen family would be in great danger.
Hubert frowned. "Since when did you acknowledge her as your sister?"
"That's none of your business. Let her go, and I'll pretend nothing happened. Otherwise, don't blame me for being rude." Evelyn was confident she could handle Hubert.
Hubert was puzzled by Evelyn's intentions and felt a bit speechless. "You hate her so much. Shouldn't you be happy that I'm ruining her for you?"
"Do you really think you know me that well?" If she hadn't seen it, it would be one thing. Now that she knew, she wouldn't allow Hubert to act recklessly, even without taking the Allen family into account.
Although Evelyn disliked Lucia, she couldn't stand by and watch her be violated by a beast."If I don't release her today, are you truly prepared to defy me?" Granting Lucia freedom today would make it challenging to secure another opportunity like this.
Evelyn nodded, unafraid. "As long as I'm here, you won't succeed."
Infuriated by Evelyn, Hubert pushed Lucia aside and lunged at her. "People from the Kyte family are all alike. You think you're heroes? Neither of you is escaping today."
Hubert resolved to confront Evelyn first, believing that without her interference, dealing with Lucia would be simple.
However, Hubert had clearly underestimated Evelyn.
Before Hubert could even lay a hand on Evelyn's sleeve, she swiftly kicked him away. Standing over him, Evelyn gazed down, stating, "Why did you have to provoke me? Now you understand the pain you've caused."
With no restraint, her kick left Hubert bedridden for at least three months.
"Evelyn!" Hubert gritted his teeth in hatred, but the pain in his abdomen made it hard for him to speak.
Facing Hubert's animosity, Evelyn nonchalantly shrugged and approached Lucia. "Why are you just standing there? Let's go.
"Okay." Lucia snapped out of it and followed Evelyn out of the restroom.
After leaving the restroom, Lucia belatedly realized that Evelyn had really saved her.
Looking at Evelyn walking ahead, Lucia felt conflicted but not particularly grateful. "Even though you saved me, I won't thank you."
"Okay," Evelyn said indifferently. She had never expected gratitude from Lucia. She intervened mainly to thwart Hubert's plan.
With Lucia's personality, if Hubert got any leverage over her, he would likely control her in the future.
"You won't tell anyone about what just happened, right?" Lucia asked, worried. If Evelyn spread the word, it would still affect her.
Evelyn stopped and looked back at her. "Don't worry. As long as you behave and don't provoke me, I won't say anything."
"I figured you wouldn't dare. If you did, the Kyte family would be disgraced too." Lucia wasn't entirely foolish.
Evelyn glanced at her, too lazy to continue the conversation. It was a waste of time.
