Chapter 755 I Don't Want to Be Your Brother
After Aidan left, Evelyn leaned against the headboard, took out her phone to browse the latest news.
She glanced at the call log and confirmed that she had indeed made an emergency call to Dermot, but he didn't answer. It was almost an hour later when he called her back.
Evelyn continued to think that if Dermot had answered immediately, she wouldn't have entered the mountains. If someone had come to rescue her then, she probably wouldn't have had to endure those two shots later.
She thought, 'However, Dermot isn't obligated to save her. It's my fault for setting him as her emergency contact, wasting this opportunity.'
Thinking of this, she reset her emergency contact to Aidan. After all, he was her brother and would come to her rescue immediately.
As for Dermot, she decided to keep him on the blacklist and not have any contact with him.
Although Dermot wasn't obligated to save her, Evelyn's heart wasn't made of stone; she still felt pain and sadness.
There was a knock on the hospital room door, bringing Evelyn back to reality. She thought it was Joshua returning so she said, "Come in."
The door opened, and it wasn't Joshua but Geoffrey who entered.
Evelyn was hospitalized at Golombia Hospital, and those well-informed in the hospital knew she was there. Geoffrey was one of them.
"Evelyn, are you okay? I heard you had an accident this morning and came over immediately," Geoffrey said as he walked over. It seemed he really cared about Evelyn.
Evelyn forced a smile and said, "I'm fine."
"How did you get hurt?" he asked curiously, pointing to Evelyn's bandaged wound.
"I fell," Evelyn replied.
Geoffrey fell silent.
He thought, 'Even if you think I'm a fool, at least come up with a better excuse.'
But Geoffrey didn't say it out loud, "Really? Be more careful next time."
"I will," Evelyn replied. She didn't have much to say to him, and she felt she had made her point clear. She didn't understand why Geoffrey was still here.
The atmosphere became awkward. Geoffrey could tell Evelyn didn't want to talk much, but he didn't want to leave either, feeling he should do something.
As he was thinking, Joshua knocked and entered. Seeing someone else in the room, he was a bit surprised. He asked, "And you are?"
"A colleague."
"A friend."
Evelyn and Geoffrey spoke simultaneously, but their answers were completely different.
Joshua smiled and didn't mind. He said to Geoffrey, "Since you're a colleague, have a seat. Thank you for coming to visit Evelyn."
Geoffrey didn't like his attitude, which made it seem like Joshua was the host and he was the guest.
"Evelyn, who is he?" Geoffrey asked curiously.
"My brother," Evelyn replied.
Joshua smiled and added, "Not a biological brother."
Geoffrey felt a pang of discomfort in heart, thinking, 'Not a biological brother? Then a boyfriend?
'No wonder Evelyn rejected me; she has a better option.'
Although he didn't know Joshua, Geoffrey could tell from his demeanor that Joshua was probably wealthy and more handsome than him.
Even though he didn't want to admit it, the truth was right in front of him.
"Do you have anything else to say? If not, you should get back to work," Evelyn said, not wanting to talk to him any longer.
Geoffrey smiled and nodded, "Alright, I'll get back to work. Take care and recover soon. I'll treat you to a meal once you're better."
Evelyn smiled but didn't agree. She had no intention of having a meal with Geoffrey.
Soon, Geoffrey left, and Evelyn turned her gaze to Joshua. She asked, "What? Do you want to be my biological brother?"
"I mainly don't want to be your brother," Joshua said, a smile spreading across his face.
