Chapter 1056: Impossible
Evelyn was shocked. She knew Dermot had a reason for mentioning a foreigner.
"Are you saying Joshua was behind my kidnapping?" she asked, incredulous.
"Yeah, I think he staged it to make you stay with him by rescuing you," Dermot replied. Joshua wouldn't kidnap Evelyn, but maybe his goal wasn't kidnapping.
It seemed like his plan had worked.
"No way!" Evelyn shot back. "Joshua isn't like that."
Dermot hesitated, wanting to argue that Joshua was never a good person, but seeing Evelyn's firm belief, he backed off. "Maybe, but it depends on whether his injury is real."
"Fine, I'll convince him to get re-examined at Golombia Hospital," Evelyn said, thinking Leon might not need to stay here any longer.
Dermot realized there was no point in continuing. Evelyn would never let him force Joshua into an exam.
He turned to Leon, looking apologetic. "Sorry. I'll arrange for someone to take you to the airport."
"No problem," Leon said, leaving after saying goodbye.
After Leon left, Evelyn still felt uneasy. She knew Dermot's suspicions but didn't want to believe Joshua was that kind of person.
"Don't worry about Joshua. I'll convince him to get checked," she said, heading back to the villa.
Dermot watched her go, wanting to say something but staying silent. He needed solid evidence; speculation was pointless.
In the following days, Evelyn was conflicted but didn't push Joshua for an exam. She continued to care for him daily as if nothing had changed.
Dermot called her every night after she returned to her room. They communicated frequently, even though they didn't live together.
One day, after settling Joshua in his room, Evelyn went back to hers.
She expected Dermot to call soon after her light was on, as usual.
But ten minutes passed, and he still hadn't called.
She got up and saw the light in Dermot's study was on, indicating he was home.
If he was home, why hadn't he called?
Maybe he was busy. Evelyn decided not to worry and went to take a shower, assuming he'd call by the time she finished.
But when she came out, there were still no missed calls from Dermot.
Feeling worried, she decided to call him.
The phone rang for a long time with no answer, making her more anxious.
She thought about calling Henry to check on Dermot but remembered Henry had gone back to Moris City, leaving Dermot alone in the villa.
Frowning, she dialed again.
Still no answer.
Evelyn didn't wait any longer. She put on a coat and left her room, heading to Dermot's villa.
