Chapter 965: I'll Do My Best

At the entrance of the operating room, Amelia's sister and Alice were already waiting. When they saw Evelyn approaching, they quickly walked over.

"Dr. Kyte, the surgery..." Amelia's sister's eyes were red, and she couldn't finish her question.

Evelyn nodded. "Don't worry; I'll do my best."

"Okay." Amelia's sister didn't say more. All they could do now was hope.

"Dr. Kyte, my mom will be okay, right?" Alice asked, worried but not fully understanding.

Evelyn smiled at her. "She'll be fine. Be good, okay?"

"Okay, I'll wait for mommy." Alice nodded, not grasping the seriousness.

Evelyn entered the operating room, and the surgery began.

Amelia's surgery wasn't difficult for Evelyn. She'd done it countless times and knew every step by heart.

But thinking of Alice and Amelia's tough life, Evelyn felt extra pressure this time.

Thankfully, the surgery went well.

Four hours later, it was over, and Amelia was moved to the ICU. If she made it through the first night, she'd be okay.

Evelyn felt relieved as she walked out and saw the family.

"Dr. Kyte, where's my mom?" Alice asked.

"She's in the ICU. You can't see her for a few days, but she'll recover and be with you soon." This was probably what Amelia wanted most.

Alice nodded. "Thank you, Dr. Kyte. You're a good person."

"This is my job. When you grow up, be good to your mom, okay?" Evelyn said, knowing how much Amelia had endured.

Alice nodded, and Amelia's sister, with teary eyes, also thanked Evelyn. Evelyn waved it off. "She'll be in the ICU for a few days. Take Alice home to rest. You'll need to take care of her when she moves to a regular room."

"Okay," Amelia's sister agreed.

Evelyn thought Amelia wasn't so unlucky after all. Despite her illness and a heartless husband, she had a loving sister and daughter.

After arranging everything, Evelyn headed to the doctor's office, changed clothes, and prepared to leave.

The surgery had exhausted her. She checked the time—almost 8 PM. Time had flown by.

"Yesterday you said you wouldn't work late, and now look at you. Dr. Kyte, are you tired?" Dermot's voice sounded as he approached.

Evelyn smiled. "How can I be tired doing what I love?"

"Alright, Dr. Kyte, always sacrificing for the greater good," Dermot teased, guiding her to the car.

"What do you want to eat? I need to treat the dedicated you to a good meal," Dermot said, starting the car and glancing at Evelyn.
