Chapter 351 You Don't Owe Me Anything
Dermot arrived quickly, and just about ten minutes after Marina left, he appeared before Evelyn.
"Weren't you supposed to meet with clients tonight? Why did you suddenly think of picking me up?" Evelyn asked as she got into Dermot's car.
She had a wound on her waist, so her movements were a bit stiff. However, she tried her best to appear normal, not wanting Dermot to notice.
Driving the car, Dermot casually replied, "The necessary discussions have already been completed. All that's left is some drinking and chatting, which I've left to Todd."
"Mr. Angelo seems really busy," Evelyn remarked casually. Normally, Dermot's personal matters were handled by Todd, in addition to entertaining clients. It would be too much for an ordinary person.
Dermot chuckled lightly and replied, "A million-dollar salary isn't so easily earned."
"A million dollars a year?" Evelyn exclaimed in surprise. "That salary is really high."
Even as Vice Director at Moris Hospital, her salary wasn't as high as Todd's. It's no wonder he's so busy. It seems that those jobs with high pay and few responsibilities truly exist.
"Envious?" Dermot raised an eyebrow and asked with a smile.
Evelyn nodded, not denying it. "Who wouldn't be envious?"
Actually, she wasn't lacking in money. Besides being a doctor, she had quite a few other side businesses. However, she couldn't help but truly feel that a million-dollar salary was a lot of money.
"If you become my secretary, I can also offer you a million-dollar salary," Dermot said.
Evelyn tugged at the corner of her mouth and glanced at him. "Got it, you're rich."
"It's alright, I'm just the richest person in Moris City," Dermot said nonchalantly. His words somehow sounded a bit arrogant.
Evelyn sighed and for the first time, she realized that Dermot was quite fond of showing off his wealth.
The car quickly arrived at the apartment building. As soon as the car stopped, Evelyn was about to get out when Dermot hurriedly stopped her. "Don't move."
Evelyn froze and felt confused. Just as she was about to ask, Dermot got out of the car and came over, opening the passenger door and then carrying her out.
Evelyn looked at Dermot with a puzzled expression. "What are you doing?"
"What do you think?" The man didn't directly answer her question but instead carried her toward the direction of the elevator.
Evelyn pursed her lips, already having a guess in her heart.
"You already know, right?" Evelyn asked with a strained voice, inexplicably feeling guilty and unable to look into Dermot's eyes.
Dermot didn't speak, and suddenly the atmosphere became somewhat oppressive.
Evelyn felt guilty and quickly explained, "I didn't mean to hide it from you. I just didn't want you to worry."
"Evelyn, do you really consider me your boyfriend?" The man lowered his head and looked at the woman in his arms.
He felt powerless, always feeling like Evelyn didn't see him as a real boyfriend.
Evelyn remained silent and listened as Dermot continued, "I want to be your support, to make sure you can rely on me no matter what happens."
"Time tells me," Evelyn said. She had never relied on anyone before, always thinking that she should solve everything on her own, even keeping things from Dermot.
"I'm sorry..."
"Why are you apologizing? There's nothing for you to apologize for," Dermot interrupted her, somewhat begrudgingly.
Feeling his anger, Evelyn weakly said, "I'm sorry, I just didn't want to bother you. Can I be more careful next time?"
She only wanted to avoid causing trouble for Dermot, thinking that it was for the best.
Little did she know that Dermot had a completely different thought in mind than her own understanding.
Dermot, who had been initially furious, was momentarily stunned by her words. He looked at the pitiful woman in his arms and didn't know what to say.
"Alright, be more careful next time," he nodded wryly. After all, she looked so pitiful that he couldn't bear to scold her.
