Chapter 20
In Aidan's car, Evelyn got a call from Niall. "The Ackers family became the Doyle Group's new partner."
"The Ackers family?" Evelyn was slightly taken aback. She suddenly felt it was such a small world.
"The Ackers family seems to be very close to Dermot. Almost everyone in Moris City knows that Dermot is behind them, so their family's business went quite well these two years."
Confused, Niall asked, "Why do you wanna know about them? That asshole pissed you off again?"
"Nothing. I'm just curious about why he suddenly chose the Ackers family over us," Evelyn answered peacefully.
"OK. If he dares to piss you off again, just tell me. I'll beat him up!" Niall replied. Dermot wasted two years of Evelyn's life. Niall couldn't pretend nothing had happened.
Hearing this, Evelyn smiled gently. "I will."
After hanging up, Evelyn looked out the car window. Sometimes, her family reminded her how lucky she was.
Although Evelyn had no parents, she was raised by her grandpa and had two elder brothers who loved her very much. She was very satisfied with her current life.
"The woman earlier was from the Ackers family, right?" Aidan said suddenly, looking at Evelyn.
Evelyn nodded. "Yeah."
Besides Cassie's family, Evelyn couldn't think of other families with the same family name.
"Seems that Dermot had planned to replace the Kite Group long ago. He just found a good excuse this time." Even if they didn't say something bad behind Dermot's back, Dermot would still have chosen the Ackers family over the Kite Group.
Evelyn nodded, her face darkened. "Yeah. I just feel stupid. I thought our partnership with the Doyle Group could go on if I went to apologize."
Now, the whole thing sounded ridiculous to Evelyn.
Seeing Evelyn being upset, Aidan changed the subject. "There's a charity dinner tomorrow night. Are you free?"
"You want me to be your plus one?" Evelyn asked.
"Yeah. I need a plus one," Aidan admitted.
Evelyn covered her mouth and chuckled, "Sure. But I think it's time for you to find a girlfriend, Aidan. I can't be your plus one forever."
"OK, I will," Aidan said perfunctorily. Meanwhile, his gaze fell on Evelyn, assessing her reaction.

Dermot returned to the company after he drove Cassie home.
However, when he looked at the files in front of him, he couldn't help thinking of Evelyn.
Evelyn's voice echoed in Dermot's mind. The more he thought about it, the more he felt that it was very similar to the voice he heard at the gate of Doyal Mansion that day.
At this moment, Todd knocked on the door and then came in. "Mr. Doyle."
"What?" Dermot asked, temporarily suppressing his doubts.
"It's about your ex. You asked me to find her and give her the house west of the city, but..." Todd hesitated and didn't know how to continue.
Dermot raised his eyes with displeasure. "But what? She's not satisfied?"
"No. It's just that, I can't find her." Todd lowered his head, not daring to meet Dermot's eyes.
"You can't find her?" Dermot frowned, displeased. "Todd, you've really disappointed me."
Dermot had already been discontented when Todd failed to dig out Dr. Kyte's information. And now, Todd even failed to find his ex.
Todd nodded with cold sweat streaming down his back. "I'm so sorry, Mr. Doyle. It won't happen again."
A hint of cruelness flashed through Dermot's eyes. "Keep digging. A country girl like her won't ran out, understand?"
Though Dermot was pissed about not being unable to dig out detailed information about Dr. Kyte, he thought it was understandable, considering Evelyn's family. But he couldn't bear his ex-wife out of his control.
"Yes. I'll definitely find her, Mr. Doyle," Todd swore.
After breathing a sigh of relief, Todd said again, "There's a charity dinner tomorrow night. Will you go?"
