Chapter 36

Evelyn saw a fleeting hint of hatred in Keith's eyes when their gazes met. She was certain she hadn't done anything to provoke him, so where did his hatred come from? Dermot?

At that moment, Evelyn seemed to understand something. "I'm not interested in Dermot either," she replied and added, "I don't know what kind of grudges you have with him, but please don't involve me."

"Dr. Kyte, you're overthinking things. I simply want to pursue you," Keith said, suddenly back to his smiling self. It was hard to believe that this man was responsible for killing his own father.

"I refuse," she said firmly.

Keith didn't seem upset and stood up while still smiling. "It's okay; I have plenty of time. I believe I'll be able to win your heart someday."

Without waiting for her to reply, he left the office.

Evelyn thought to herself, "It's been a terrible day." Later that afternoon, while she was preparing for surgery, Marina came to find her in a hurry.

"Dr. Kyte, there's an emergency patient who insists on having you perform the surgery," Marina said, clearly unhappy.

"What's the situation? Is it serious?" Evelyn asked as she headed towards the Emergency Department.

"It's just a minor concussion. The emergency doctor explained it to them, but they don't believe it and insist on finding you," Marina replied.

Evelyn frowned, deep in thought, before saying, "Let me take a look first."

"Okay," Marina agreed and followed Evelyn to the Emergency Department.

As soon as they arrived, they were surrounded by people. "You're Dr. Kyte? The most skilled neurosurgeon spoken about outside?" One of the patient's family members looked at her skeptically.

They had heard about the talented neurosurgeon at Moris Hospital and insisted on being brought there via ambulance.

But could this young girl, who seemed so inexperienced, really be that skilled?

Ignoring the family members, Evelyn turned to the emergency doctor. "Has a CT scan of the head been taken? Let me see it."

She was also worried that the patient's condition was serious, so she wanted to take a look for herself.

The emergency doctor quickly handed her the scans and said, "It's just a minor concussion. A few days in the hospital will suffice. They insist on surgery."

He was also at a loss, having never encountered anyone so insistent on surgery before.

Evelyn looked at the scans and nodded. "There doesn't seem to be anything major."

She then looked at John, the 16-year-old patient lying in bed, "Hello, little brother. I'm Dr. Kyte. Let me give you an examination, and you can cooperate with me."

John nodded obediently, much more well-behaved than the noisy family members outside.

After examining him, Evelyn told him, "You don't have any major issues; just some external injuries and a minor concussion. A few days in the hospital should be enough. There's no need for surgery."

"That won't do," the patient's family member rushed over and pointed at the patient. "He looks fine, but I'm sure there's bleeding in his brain. How can we not do surgery?"

Evelyn looked unhappy as she stared at the woman. "Are you the patient's mother?"

"I am," the woman replied, adding, "In this situation, he must have surgery. If something happens, can you bear the responsibility?"

"All of his tests came back normal. There's no reason for surgery." Evelyn was helpless and continued to explain, "Why do you think he must have surgery?"

"I'm his mother. If I say he needs surgery, then he needs surgery," the woman persisted, fierce and stubborn.
