Chapter 898 Regret What?

"I really regret it," Dermot said, looking at Evelyn with mixed emotions.

"Regret what?" Evelyn asked, confused.

"If I hadn't been so arrogant, maybe we wouldn't have broken up," he replied.

Dermot sighed. When Benjamin showed up, Dermot worried he might hurt Evelyn. So, he distanced himself, thinking he was protecting her, but it just hurt her more.

Evelyn thought back and didn't deny it. "Maybe at that time, we weren't firm enough with each other."

"No, I didn't understand you well enough. I didn't know what was best for you." If Dermot had known Evelyn wasn't afraid of danger, he might not have pulled away, leading to their breakup.

"Do you think you understand me now?" Evelyn asked.

Dermot wanted to nod but hesitated.

Seeing this, Evelyn chuckled. "If we faced the same situation again, and being with me was dangerous, what would you do?"

"Isn't that the situation now?" Dermot replied with a smile, clearly having an answer this time.

Evelyn was taken aback. She realized he was right.

Now, Dermot was facing danger from Randy but stayed close to her. He had made his choice.

Evelyn sighed. "Yeah, if you had been this determined back then, things might have been different."

Dermot stayed silent, and they both fell quiet.

Just then, they heard a voice from below the balcony. Evelyn recognized it as Lily's. She seemed to be on the phone.

Evelyn leaned out to see but was pulled back by Dermot, who hugged her waist. "Are you crazy? You might fall!"

"It's fine. I know what I'm doing." They were on the second floor. She wouldn't fall, and even if she did, it wouldn't be a big deal.

Soon, Evelyn heard Lily's voice. "All you do is call me for money! Am I your ATM? I'm a person!"

Downstairs, Lily was very emotional. It surprised Evelyn as it was different from the image Lily had shown before.

"So what if I found a rich boyfriend? What does it have to do with you? If you cause trouble, don't expect a penny from me!"

Lily angrily hung up. She stood there for a while, calming down, then looked around to make sure no one was there. She felt sad, wondering if she'd ever escape her family's burden.

Lily sighed and quickly composed herself. When she walked into the living room, she showed no trace of her previous feelings.

When Evelyn and Dermot came downstairs, only Lily was in the living room. Aidan and the others were still discussing something.

"Evelyn, Mr. Doyle," Lily greeted them, as gentle and serene as before.

Evelyn was amazed at how quickly Lily calmed down, realizing she wasn't a simple person.

She wondered if she had misjudged Lily, who was clearly different from what she had imagined.

Evelyn decided to look into Lily's background. It wasn't about prying but understanding her true intentions with Niall.

She wouldn't let anyone with bad intentions get close to Niall, whom she took as her family.
