Chapter 824 Give up That Idea

Margaret's face was flushed with anger as she stood in the room.

She finally got it. Dermot had the guts to break up with her because he knew she had no real pull in the Martin family and the members of the Martin family wouldn't end their business ties just because of their breakup.

But even knowing this, Margaret couldn't accept it.

She'd busted her butt for years without any recognition from her family. She thought Dermot was her ticket. If he took over the Doyle family and she married him, her standing in the Martin family would soar.

Now, that dream was shattered.

The more she thought about it, the madder she got, especially when she thought of Evelyn. That made her blood boil.

She blamed her situation not just on the Martin family's unforgivable actions but also on Evelyn.

If it weren't for Evelyn, Dermot wouldn't have gotten his memory back and wouldn't have dumped her.

"Margaret, just relax. Let your father and Alexander handle the business stuff. Wouldn't it be better for you just to find someone to marry?" Her mom, Abigail Williams, had no clue what was going on in Margaret's head. She was just worried about her daughter.

Hearing Abigail's words, Margaret snapped, "Why? Why can Alexander be involved in family matters and be valued by the family, but I can't? Am I any worse than him?"

She was being subtle, but in her eyes, his brother, Alexander Martin, was useless.

If the Martin family was handed over to him, they would soon drop out of the top ten families.

"Alexander is a man. Isn't it natural for men to worry about these things?" Abigail was shocked by her daughter's rebellious thoughts.

"Just because he's a man, he can do whatever he wants, even if he's useless, and still be treated like a treasure?" Even though she had known it for a long time, she couldn't help but get angry at that moment.

It was one thing for the rest of the family to think this way, but for her mom to think the same way made it even harder to bear.

Hearing her daughter scold Alexander for being useless, Abigail was displeased. "How is Alexander that bad? Just the other day, your grandfather praised him for his talent."

Margaret almost laughed when she heard it.

She thought, 'If he hadn't been born into the Martin family, he would have starved to death years ago.'

"Mom, I'm also your child. Can you not be so biased?" Margaret sighed, trying to remind the middle-aged woman in front of her that she was also her child.

Unfortunately, it didn't work.

"It's because you're my daughter that I don't want you to be so tired. Wouldn't it be better for you to do what you like and marry someone you love happily? Do you know how many people envy you?"

Even now, Abigail cannot understand why Margaret insists on getting involved in the company's affairs. Wouldn't it be better to be a happy young girl?

Margaret bit her lip. "No! I don't want to be that."

Outsiders perceived her as the heiress of a wealthy family with a life of privilege, yet the truth was that she lacked autonomy in decision-making and could potentially be exploited for business arrangements in the future. What was the point of living like that? She might as well fight for it.

"Margaret!" Abigail was also angry at her stubbornness. "Let me be clear, your father asked me to talk with you. You should understand his meaning."

She continued, "Even if you achieve great things, you won't be the head of the Martin family. Give up that idea."

"And don't interfere with the matters between the Martin family and the Doyle family. As for Dermot, if you can make him like you, that's your ability, and we won't oppose it. But if you can't, don't provoke him," Abigail added.

Margaret felt more and more desperate and angry with Abigail's words.

"Get out!" Margaret shouted.

She suddenly erupted in anger, pointing at Abigail. "Get out! I don't want to see you."
