Chapter 1266: None of Your Business
"Why the heck are you living here?" Aidan asked, frowning. Phoebe heard that all-too-familiar voice and realized she wasn't imagining things.
Instead of feeling happy to see Aidan, she felt a wave of fear.
She took a few steps back, eyeing Aidan like he was a threat. "What are you doing here? What do you want?"
Her reaction caught Aidan off guard. "I was just passing by."
Phoebe wasn't buying it.
This place was way out in the sticks, no way Aidan just happened to be here.
"You still haven't answered my question. I gave you a ton of money; why are you living here?" Aidan pressed.
Phoebe took a deep breath and stepped back again. "You gave me the money, right? So where I live is my call. Do I need your permission?"
"That's not what I meant. I just thought you'd want to live somewhere nicer," Aidan said, looking confused by her attitude.
Sure, Aidan had hoped she'd miscarry before, but he wouldn't drag her to the hospital. They had an agreement. Why would he mess with that?
Phoebe had no clue what he was thinking. She just found his words weird and kinda funny. "Do I need your okay to decide where I live?"
"That's not what I meant. I was just worried about you," he said.
"Really?" Phoebe laughed like she'd heard the funniest joke ever. "Aidan, since we agreed to stay out of each other's lives, you shouldn't be here."
Aidan's face went pale, feeling pretty stupid. "Sorry for bothering you. I'll go."
"That'd be best." Phoebe was glad to see him leave.
Aidan started walking back, but before he got to his car, he stopped and turned around. "You don't look so good. Are you okay?"
Phoebe's face was pale, and she looked frail. If it weren't for her big pregnant belly, you wouldn't even know she was expecting.
"None of your business!" Phoebe snapped.
Aidan opened his mouth but just sighed. "If you need help, you can call me. I don't mean anything else, just that..."
"No need!" Phoebe cut him off, finding Aidan especially ridiculous right now.
Even if she needed help, she wouldn't go to him. Didn't he get that everything she was dealing with was because of him?
Aidan nodded and got into his car, driving off.
Watching him leave, Phoebe finally relaxed. Thank goodness he didn't try anything; she would've fought him to the end.
But was Aidan really just passing by, or did he come here on purpose?
Phoebe thought about it for a second and then laughed.
Why was she overthinking this?
Whether he was passing by or came on purpose, what did it matter? They were from different worlds.
Thinking of this, Phoebe touched her belly and whispered, "Sweetheart, when you're born, we'll get out of here. We'll go somewhere no one knows us and start fresh."
She had thought about leaving now, but her health wouldn't let her. When her headaches hit, she couldn't do anything. She was scared something might happen, or she'd pass out where no one knew her, so she decided to stay until the baby was born.
After the baby was born, she'd go to Evelyn for a check-up. Once her headaches were sorted, she'd take the baby and leave.
