Chapter 833 Are You Happy?
In the Kyte Manor's living room...
When Evelyn walked in, Blake was still fuming over Dora's audacity. He couldn't wrap his head around how she could be so shameless and still have the gall to ask him to let Eugene go.
"Dad, what's on your mind?" Evelyn asked, noticing the anger etched on Blake's face.
Blake snapped out of his thoughts at the sound of her voice. "Nothing. Dora just came by, asking me to let Eugene go. I can't figure out where she gets her nerve."
"Why waste your time trying to understand her? You'll never know what a person like her was thinking." Evelyn wasn't surprised by it. To Dora, the Roberts family was obviously significant; She would even go as far as to destroy the Kyte family for them, so this kind of behavior wasn't strange at all.
Blake nodded, letting it go. "Why are you back so late? Overtime at the hospital?"
"Not really. I had dinner with Joshua and then went to a concert, so I got back a bit late," Evelyn replied, pouring herself a glass of water and sitting down across from Blake.
Blake's interest piqued, and he grinned. "With Joshua, huh? You must have a good time?"
"It was alright," Evelyn said. She couldn't really say if she had a good time or not; she didn't feel anything special..
"You've heard the rumors going around, right?" Blake asked, giving her a probing look.
Evelyn glanced at him, instantly catching on. "I've heard them. Did you start those rumors?"
She figured if Blake hadn't given his nod, no one would dare spread them.
Blake chuckled, not answering directly. "So, what do you think? If Joshua wants to join the Kyte family, would you be okay with it?"
Evelyn rolled her eyes. "How do you know he's willing? He's got plenty of options. Why would he want to join the Kyte family?"
Though Evelyn didn't see much difference, she thought men might care about it.
"So, you're saying if he's willing, you wouldn't oppose it?" Blake asked, confident Joshua would be on board.
Evelyn put down her glass, feeling it was time for a serious talk. "Dad, I don't have feelings for him, so don't overthink it."
"Really? I heard you liked him a lot when you were a kid and even confessed to him," Blake said, recalling what he'd heard, which made him believe Evelyn had feelings for Joshua.
But now, Evelyn's attitude didn't match his expectations.
"That was years ago. Who says the person you liked as a kid will be the one you like when you grow up?" she said, exasperated. She found the notion absurd.
Aidan thought that way, and now even her father did. Did she seem that sentimental?
Blake looked a bit discouraged. "Are you serious?"
"Yes. I don't have any romantic feelings for him now. I consider him as my family," Evelyn said. Her feelings for Joshua were akin to how she viewed Aidan and Niall, though not as intimate..
Blake sighed, looking troubled. "Evelyn, I hope that once your marriage is settled, I can go see your mother."
"Go if you want to. Why wait until after my marriage?" Evelyn said, feeling they were all independent individuals. No one should be tied down by anyone else, even if they were father and daughter.
