Chapter 1290: Really Didn't Consider Himself an Outsider
The car rolled up to Niall's villa, and Evelyn turned to Lily, "Go crash and get some shut-eye. When you wake up, Niall might be up too."
"Got it." Lily nodded and hopped out of the car.
Evelyn watched her stroll into the villa, then told Dermot to hit the gas and take off.
On the drive back, Dermot couldn't help but poke fun, "Thought you hated her guts. Now it looks like you're warming up to her."
"If Niall's willing to put his neck on the line for her, he must be head over heels. So why should I hate her? Might as well give her a shot."
Evelyn knew if she didn't change her tune, she'd not only lose Lily but Niall too.
Everyone's got their own path. It might be tough to swallow at first, but folks usually come around.
"You're pretty level-headed," Dermot chuckled, thinking she had a point. If you can't change it, why not roll with it?
If everyone thought like her, life would be a whole lot simpler.
Evelyn rubbed her temples and sighed, "Gotta stay positive. I'm too young to be moping around all the time."
Besides, whoever Niall ended up with, it was his life. She was his sister, not his keeper.
As long as they were happy, that was all that mattered.
They pulled up to their place, and both of them, wiped out from the flight and hospital visit, crashed as soon as they got inside.
Evelyn was jolted awake by her phone ringing at nightfall.
She groggily answered, seeing it was Aidan.
"Aidan, is something up with Niall?" she asked, her voice tinged with worry.
Aidan, sounding amused, quickly reassured her, "Chill, he's good. He's awake and moved to a regular room."
"Seriously? That's awesome. I'm heading over now." Evelyn said, already getting out of bed.
She hung up and saw Dermot was already dressed. He caught her look and said, "Aren't we going to the hospital? Let's roll."
"It's late, and you're coming too?" Dermot was swamped with work, more than she was. She figured he didn't need to go.
But Dermot was already on his feet. "Niall's your brother, so he's my brother too. If something's up with him, I'm there."
Dermot had come to see her family as his own. Evelyn didn't argue. She changed and they headed to the hospital together.
Aidan must've called Lily too, or maybe Niall asked him to. Either way, by the time Evelyn and Dermot got there, Lily was already in the room.
"Niall." Evelyn walked over, seeing Niall propped up against the headboard, looking pale. She couldn't help but tear up.
Niall didn't seem fazed, a faint smile on his face. "Don't sweat it, Evelyn. I'm good. Takes more than this to take me down."
Evelyn shot him a look, thinking he got lucky this time. If things had gone south, who knows what could've happened.
Niall just grinned, not bothered at all. "Sorry for making you worry. But don't stress, there won't be a next time. Once I'm outta here, I'm hitting the gym and making sure I can take on ten guys at once."
He didn't mention Lily, like if he didn't bring it up, no one would connect the dots. It was clear he didn't want anyone holding a grudge against her.
