Chapter 1164: What the heck
Man, it felt like whatever you dreaded the most always came true. Ruby's biggest nightmare? Craig losing his cool. When he did, he went full psycho, not giving a damn about anything, and might even kidnap her and lock her up in that creepy villa. She was so not up for a repeat of that horror show.
Just as she was freaking out about what to do, someone popped up behind her. The dude threw a punch at Craig, sending him sprawling.
"Alex? What the hell are you doing here?" Ruby was shocked. Alex should've been swamped at the police station right now.
Alex pulled her behind him, shooting a death glare at Craig, who was still on the ground. "I texted you, and you didn't hit me back. Got worried, so I came to check on you."
Ruby hadn't replied to his message right away, which made him a bit concerned. Knowing what kind of person Craig was, he couldn't sit still and immediately took a cab over.
Luckily, he showed up just in time.
"Sorry I made you worry." Ruby felt a bit embarrassed. When she decided to be with Alex, she had already decided to say goodbye to her past. She really didn't want to have any more entanglements with Craig, but she didn't expect him to come looking for her.
Alex held her hand, looking pissed. "You don't need to apologize. I'm sorry. I should have come to pick you up from work."
"Hey, enough!" Craig sneered, wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth.
Flirting right in front of him—did they really think he was that easy to handle?
Alex looked over at him, his gaze icy. "Ruby is my girlfriend now. Please, Mr. Irvine, show some respect!"
"And what if I don't?" Craig asked with a chilling smile.
Alex stepped up to him, staring him down. "Craig, don't think you can hide all the illegal things you've done. I'm warning you, if you keep bothering Ruby, I won't let you get away with it."
Alex just hadn't found the evidence yet. Once he did, he would make sure Craig spent some time in jail.
"Oh really? Go ahead and try. Let's see who ends up dead in the end." Craig didn't take a cop seriously.
He had killed plenty of people; what's one more?
The two men were at each other's throats, as if they could explode at any moment.
Ruby was a bit worried and stepped forward to pull Alex back. "Ignore him. Just take me home."
"Okay." Alex didn't plan to waste any more time with Craig. Throwing threats around here was pointless; it was better to see who would come out on top in the future.
Ruby and Alex got into the elevator, and Craig didn't follow. He just watched them silently.
"Alex? What a joke!" Craig sneered, lit another cigarette, took out his phone, and dialed a number. "Dig up everything you can on this guy. I want all the details."
If someone wanted to take his girlfriend from him, they better have the ability to do so.
Ruby was meant to be his. No one could take her away.
The elevator arrived, and Ruby and Alex stepped out, arriving at Ruby's front door.
Alex said, "Go on in. I'll watch until you get inside."
He wouldn't feel at ease until he saw Ruby safely home.
Ruby didn't move. She bit her lip and said, "Do you want to come in for a bit?"
"Your parents are still home. It might not be appropriate." Alex felt a bit embarrassed. Although he was already Ruby's boyfriend, he wasn't ready to meet her parents yet.
Ruby didn't mind. "Come on in. My parents are really nice."
Ruby was insistent, and Alex felt he shouldn't be a coward. Summoning his courage, he said, "Okay."
