Chapter 1174: I Don't Want to Leave just Yet
Evelyn's question had Blake scratching his head too. "I dunno, but my gut says she ain't out to get us."
If she had bad intentions, Blake would've been toast back when he was out cold.
"Let's drop this for now. When you thinkin' of ditching Seabrook City?" Evelyn was dead set on getting Blake outta there. It was too risky, and she figured Blake shouldn't stick around.
Blake went quiet. After a bit, he said, "Evelyn, I ain't ready to bail just yet. I keep feeling like your mom's still here. If I split, I might never find her."
"I already hit up the Calderon family. Mom bounced decades ago. You sure she's still around?" Evelyn asked.
Blake was shocked Evelyn had gone to the Calderons. "You went to the Calderons? Why?"
"You vanished, and the Calderons were the top suspects. Had to check 'em out," Evelyn said, thinking she did the right thing.
Blake felt helpless. "If they did it, you think they'd spill the beans? What if you got hurt going there all reckless?"
Blake was clearly pissed and worried.
"Chill. The Calderons might run Seabrook City, but we ain't pushovers, right?" Evelyn said with a sly grin. She was sure the Calderons wouldn't mess with her.
Blake sighed, knowing Evelyn was stubborn, and let it go. "They said your mom left decades ago?"
"Yeah, the Calderons seemed real jumpy about my mom. Looks like she split a long time ago," Evelyn said, piecing it together from their reactions.
Blake was stumped. If Bella wasn't with the Calderons, where the heck was she?
Evelyn asked, "So, even knowing my mom ain't with the Calderons, you still ain't leaving?"
"Of course. Your mom might not be with the Calderons, but she's gotta be in Seabrook City. Why else would someone try to off me? They're scared I'll find Bella."
Seeing how stubborn her dad was, Evelyn knew she couldn't change his mind. "Alright, I'll help you look for her."
"But..."
"I got this," Evelyn said confidently.
Blake nodded, feeling a bit better. With her help, they might actually find Bella.
In Seabrook City, families like the Calderons had some clout—not too big, not too small. But the Flores family? They ran the show.
To put it bluntly, Seabrook City was practically the Flores family's playground. Anyone wanting to make a living there needed their nod. Without it, you either couldn't do business or might end up dead in some sketchy alley.
This was a swanky villa, tucked away in a peaceful, picture-perfect spot.
Bella sat in her room, staring out the window, feeling down.
She clutched her phone, eyes glued to it until a message popped up: [They've taken him away.]
Bella let out a sigh of relief, then yanked out the SIM card, snapped it, and flushed it down the toilet.
Just as she finished, there was a knock on the bathroom door. "Bella."
Bella tensed up instantly. She took a deep breath, fixed her hair in the mirror until she looked calm, and then walked out of the bathroom.
