Chapter 923: Keep Watching
"Sounds good," Evelyn said with a smile. It felt normal.
Joshua smiled and asked, "What about you? What have you been up to?"
"Oh, me?" Evelyn pointed to herself. "Aidan probably told you. Just the usual, like you."
Joshua thought they were still different.
Evelyn had gotten married, divorced, reunited with Dermot, and split again. Her life was more eventful than his.
But he didn't mention it. Since Evelyn didn't, he wouldn't either. They avoided the topic.
They chatted casually, and soon it was evening. Joshua got up to cook dinner. Evelyn offered to help but was refused. He told her to relax in the living room, making it hard to tell who was the guest.
Joshua whipped up the meal in thirty minutes. Evelyn looked at the spread and gave him a thumbs up.
He was impressive.
Just as they were about to eat, the doorbell rang. Evelyn's heart skipped a beat, wondering if it was Dermot.
"I'll get it," Joshua said, curious who'd be looking for Evelyn at this hour. He got up to open the door, and Evelyn didn't have a chance to decline.
When the door opened, it wasn't Dermot but a delivery person.
"Is this Ms. Kyte's residence? This is her delivery," the delivery person said, handing the food to Joshua, assuming they were a family.
Joshua took it, placed it on the table, and looked at Evelyn without a word.
Evelyn felt awkward. She glanced at the restaurant name and guessed who ordered it.
"Evelyn, are you afraid my cooking is bad or that I didn't make enough? Why order delivery?" Joshua laughed, surprised.
Evelyn forced a laugh and lied. "I ordered before you came and forgot to tell you."
"Really?" Joshua stared at her, skeptical.
Evelyn nodded, feeling guilty and avoiding eye contact. "Let's eat first. I'll save the delivery for tomorrow."
She put the delivery in the fridge and returned to the table. They started eating and didn't mention it again.
Meanwhile, Dermot was busy when he got a text from Evelyn about the delivery.
He replied, then looked up. "What about Doyle Manor?"
"Everything's fine," Todd replied.
"Keep watch. Don't let them harm Evelyn," Dermot said.
Todd nodded, understanding Evelyn's importance to Dermot. "Just focus on Doyle Manor? What about James?"
Dermot didn't seem concerned about James, but Todd thought they shouldn't underestimate him. Sometimes, seemingly harmless people were the biggest threats.
"He's not going to act for now," Dermot said, not underestimating James but recognizing his cunning.
At this time, James had no reason to intervene. Watching Dermot and Randy fight while he stayed out and still won was the best outcome for him, wasn't it?
