Chapter 632 I'm Interested in You
Dermot found himself grappling with a multitude of questions, his mind a whirlwind of confusion. "Why would he make such a sudden decision?" he pondered aloud.Margaret Martin, his companion in the room, shrugged in response. "Perhaps he feels remorse for the way he treated your grandfather and wishes to make amends?" she suggested, though she herself was far from certain. The opportunity Dermot had been presented with, the chance to vie for the inheritance of the prestigious Doyle family, could indeed be seen as a form of reparation. After all, such an opportunity was a rarity. However, Dermot was skeptical. He doubted the sincerity of the benefactor. If this person truly harbored such goodwill, why had he not visited Dermot's grandfather during his final years? Dermot suspected that they were merely using him as a stepping stone for the Doyle family's descendants. If the heirs could not handle the likes of him, they were probably unworthy of the Doyle inheritance. Yet, if they could, it would signify their capability, and the old man would have no qualms entrusting the family to them. As for Dermot, an outsider, could he really be entrusted with the Doyle family? His eyes flickered with contemplation. The opportunity was too good to pass up. To disregard it would be to waste the old man's intricate plans. He found himself setting his sights on the Doyle family."Have you made up your mind?" Margaret inquired, her gaze unwavering. She had already surmised Dermot's decision and was not surprised by his determination.Dermot nodded, his mind no longer occupied by the inheritance. Instead, he focused on the woman before him. "What is your purpose?" he asked, refusing to believe she was without an ulterior motive."I am your doctor, isn't it natural for me to save you?" Margaret defended herself. She had been fortunate enough to sense something amiss during a phone call with Dermot and had immediately sent help. They had arrived just in time to pull him from the river, saving him from certain death. However, Dermot remained unconvinced. He scrutinized her face, repeating his question, "What is your purpose?"Margaret sighed, a helpless shrug lifting her shoulders. "Truthfully, I don't have much of a purpose. I just think that if you want to take over the Doyle family, you might need my help."
Dermot was taken aback, but before he could respond, Margaret introduced herself. "Allow me to reintroduce myself. I am Margaret of the Martin family, one of the top ten families in Columbia, just like the Doyle family.""My purpose is simple. I will do everything in my power to help you secure the Doyle family, and in return, you help me secure the Martin family." Her smile was radiant, her eyes alight with ambition.Despite being a Martin, Margaret had never been given the opportunity to inherit her family's legacy. The patriarchs believed the heir should be male. However, Dermot's appearance had rekindled her hope, and she was ready to fight for her inheritance.Dermot found her intentions clear and acceptable. He was about to agree when Margaret added, "I also have another motive concerning you."Dermot's brow furrowed in confusion. Margaret leaned in closer, her voice barely above a whisper as she confessed, "I'm interested in you."With a chuckle, she left the room, her laughter echoing behind her. Dermot was left speechless. Margaret was undeniably beautiful, but he wasn't particularly interested. Yet, he didn't reject her either. They were using each other, and there was no need to complicate things further. His focus needed to be on securing the Doyle family. He wondered about Evelyn, his ex-wife. She wasn't the type to get entangled in such matters. Her recent actions were probably due to illness.Fortunately, he was back to his normal self. Being divorced, he had no intention of getting involved with her again. Suddenly, Dermot snapped back to reality. Why was he thinking about Evelyn? His focus should be on the Doyle family. Everything else was inconsequential.
