Chapter 921: Lily's Past
After calming down, Evelyn called Aidan back. As soon as he picked up, she said, "We can't let Niall and Lily be together."
"Yeah, I agree," Aidan replied. He had already decided on this even before Evelyn called.
As the eldest brother, it was his job to handle these things.
But Evelyn was cautious. "Let's not be too harsh. Niall might rebel."
First loves can make people do crazy things. She worried that trying to stop him would just make Niall more determined.
"How about I show him these materials first? Let him see what kind of person Lily really is. Maybe he'll decide to break up with her on his own," Aidan suggested. He hoped that once Niall saw the truth, he'd end things with Lily himself.
Evelyn thought that made sense. "Okay."
After a few more words, they hung up. Evelyn looked at the info about Lily in her email and was speechless.
When she first met Lily, she thought she was sweet and quiet.
But now, after seeing the materials, she realized it was all an act. The info probably showed the real Lily.
Lily had a rough childhood; her parents mistreated her, and she had a tough life.
Even as an adult, her family still drained her finances.
Evelyn thought this was irrational but didn't feel it was her place to judge.
What she couldn't accept were Lily's choices.
Lily couldn't escape her troubled family, but seeking financial independence and a good marriage was reasonable. The problem was how she went about it.
The materials Aidan provided showed that since college, Lily had always dated wealthier guys.
This continued even after she started working. It seemed her goal was to marry rich, no matter the cost.
Evelyn couldn't understand this. She wouldn't have cared if Lily wasn't with Niall.
Now that Lily was after Niall, Evelyn couldn't just sit back.
The materials showed that when Lily met Niall, she had a boyfriend who was over ten years older.
But after meeting Niall, she quickly dumped him and got with Niall, becoming his girlfriend.
Her intentions were clear: she wanted to marry rich. If someone wealthier came along, she'd leave Niall in a heartbeat. Evelyn suspected Lily felt the same about Niall but hadn't found someone richer yet.
Or maybe she had but knew she had no chance.
Evelyn felt a headache coming on. She never thought Niall, who had never dated before, would end up with someone like this. It was worrying.
If Niall decided to stay with Lily and didn't care about her past, there was nothing they could do.
Lost in thought, Evelyn was jolted back to reality by the doorbell. She took a deep breath, composed herself, and went to answer the door.
