Chapter 967: Dermot Cooks for Evelyn
It wasn't as great as it looked.
Evelyn rarely cooked. Washing veggies was fine, but cutting them? Not so much.
"Dr. Kyte, do you keep this casual during surgery?" Dermot eyed the potato chunks Evelyn had cut.
Evelyn looked a bit embarrassed. "I might've overdone it."
"Alright, just watch for now." Dermot gently took the knife from her.
Feeling more embarrassed, Evelyn stepped aside like a kid who messed up.
Dermot almost laughed. He cleared his throat and sent her downstairs to buy some salt.
"Don't we have any?" Evelyn asked, not wanting to go out.
"Nope, we're out. I didn't notice earlier." It had been a while since he last cooked at her place, so he forgot to buy salt.
Evelyn reluctantly changed her shoes and went out.
At the corner store, the shopkeeper looked curious. "Evelyn, was that your boyfriend? I see you two together a lot."
The shopkeeper knew Evelyn was a doctor and was friendly with her.
"No, no, you got it wrong. He lives across from me, so we hang out a lot," Evelyn explained.
The shopkeeper smiled knowingly. "Really? He seems to like you."
The shopkeeper, having seen a lot, could tell Dermot liked Evelyn. Who'd believe they were just neighbors?
Evelyn laughed awkwardly, paid, and left with the salt.
On her way back, she couldn't help but think.
She had been getting closer to Dermot. Not just the shopkeeper, but many colleagues at the hospital thought he was her boyfriend.
Evelyn had a slight headache. She hadn't figured it out yet. Maybe she was just waiting.
The elevator stopped. She shook off her thoughts and by the time she got home, everything felt normal again.
"Here you go." Evelyn handed the salt to Dermot. "Need any more help?"
"No, just relax in the living room. Dinner's almost ready," Dermot said.
Dermot was cooking skillfully. He looked more like a chef than a corporate president.
Evelyn couldn't help but laugh.
She went to the living room, sat on the sofa, and started chatting with Ruby on the phone, mentioning Dermot was cooking.
Ruby: [I wish I could come over. I haven't tried Dermot's cooking yet.]
Evelyn glanced at the kitchen. Dermot was still busy. She snapped a photo and sent it to Ruby: [You can't taste it, but you can see him.]
Ruby: [You two are definitely showing off.]
Evelyn sent an eye-roll emoji and told her to get Alex to cook for her.
Ruby sent a facepalm emoji back.
Evelyn put away her phone, feeling satisfied.
She browsed today's news, mostly about the Doyle family. She only found out today how bad their situation was.
She looked at Dermot in the kitchen, who seemed unfazed. Did he really not care, or was he just trying not to worry her?
