Chapter 1098: Do You Think She Didn't Notice
Evelyn didn't catch a whiff of guilt on Joshua's face; dude looked downright happy.
"Thanks, Evelyn," he said, all smiles.
Evelyn gave him a once-over, feeling like she didn't even know him. "Joshua, no need to thank me. Even if you weren't hurt 'cause of me, I wouldn't just leave you hanging. You've always been good to me, never lied. Why wouldn't I help? Right, Joshua?"
She was fishing for something. Joshua's face went stiff, like he felt something was up but couldn't pin it down. "Of course, why would I lie to you?"
'Really? Have you never lied to me?' Evelyn thought bitterly. Right now, she'd rather jet off with Joshua than be played by him.
Brandon came back with breakfast soon enough. He had no clue what went down while he was gone, but he heard Joshua say, "Get ready."
"Huh?" Brandon was still in a fog.
"For going abroad," Evelyn filled in.
Brandon was floored. What? Didn't Evelyn just say no? What did they talk about while he was out?
Seeing him still standing there, Joshua got annoyed. "Why are you still here?"
"Oh, right, I'll get on it." Brandon's grin stretched wider.
Evelyn used to think Brandon was happy 'cause Joshua had a shot at healing, but now, she felt it was all about the trip. He didn't seem too worried about Joshua's injury.
After Brandon left, Joshua turned to Evelyn. "Evelyn, eat something. Don't starve yourself."
Evelyn nodded and picked up a glass of milk, but she wasn't feeling it.
She'd already eaten at Dermot's, plus her mind was racing.
"Not your thing?" Joshua asked, noticing she hadn't eaten much, looking a bit worried.
Evelyn shook her head. "No, just thinking about how to break the news to Aidan and the others about going abroad. It's a headache."
Joshua got it right away. Not just Evelyn, he was worried too.
Aidan and Niall definitely wouldn't be cool with it. He was scared Evelyn might get talked out of it. "They probably won't be down with you leaving with me, huh?"
"Don't worry; I'll convince them. Just need some time," Evelyn said.
She needed time to dig around, so she couldn't bounce in the next couple of days. She had to use Aidan and the others as a cover.
"Got it." Joshua didn't push it, knowing Evelyn hadn't changed her mind, he felt better.
They chatted a bit more, then Evelyn got up to leave. She had stuff to do. Joshua didn't stop her.
After she left, Joshua's smile vanished. He called Brandon in.
"Mr. Garcia, I'm busy getting ready for the trip," Brandon said, looking confused. What could be more important than this?
Joshua's face was serious, giving Brandon the chills. "Mr. Garcia, something up?"
"Did Evelyn grab your hurt arm just now?" Joshua asked.
Brandon nodded, grumbling, "It hurt like hell. Lucky I could tough it out, or I'd have screamed."
"You think she didn't notice?" Joshua sneered. With Evelyn's sharp eyes, she definitely caught something off with Brandon.
Brandon was shocked and puzzled. "Mr. Garcia, what are you getting at?"
