Chapter 1165: Mr. Kyte Is Missing

At Dermot's crib, he threw together a meal in no time, and soon enough, the grub was on the table. They plopped down to chow.

While munching, they shot the breeze, mostly about the wild stuff Evelyn ran into at the clinic. Mid-convo, Dermot had a lightbulb moment and said, "Hey, there's a bash on Sunday. Wanna roll with me?"

They hadn't really shown up as a duo in public since they got together. Sunday's shindig seemed like the perfect chance.

"Sure thing," Evelyn said, not having any other plans.

"Dig in," Dermot grinned, feeling stoked. Life might've seemed pretty chill and uneventful, but it was just what he wanted.

After dinner, Dermot hit the study to tackle some company stuff, while Evelyn kicked back in the living room with a book. After her last goof-up, she knew better than to bug Dermot in the study and mess up his flow.

She was deep into some medical books. Being a doc meant a ton of exams, and a big one was coming up in a couple of months. Even Evelyn couldn't slack off.

Out of nowhere, her phone buzzed, snapping her out of her zone. She picked it up, a bit thrown. "Howard?"

"Ms. Kyte, Mr. Kyte is MIA." A worried voice came through. Evelyn, who'd been lounging on the couch, shot up straight.

"What went down?" Evelyn asked.

Howard spilled the beans. Blake had been hot on the trail, close to finding Evelyn's mom. But just when he was about to crack it, Blake vanished, which was super sketchy.

After hearing it all, Evelyn's face scrunched up. "Howard, you've been with my dad all this time. What's your take on this?"

Howard paused before saying, "I think it’s got something to do with your mom."

Evelyn wasn't shocked; she kinda saw it coming.

"As Mr. Kyte dug deeper, we faced a few hit attempts, but we dodged them. I had a hunch someone wanted us to back off, so I gave Mr. Kyte a heads-up."

But Blake was stubborn as a mule and wouldn't quit.

Evelyn thought for a sec, then told Howard, "Howard, send me everything you’ve got, especially the stuff on my mom."

"Got it, I'll shoot it over ASAP," Howard agreed.

After hanging up, Evelyn's face was all scrunched up.

"What’s up?" Dermot had come downstairs at some point and was now next to her. Seeing her frown, he knew something was off.

Evelyn didn't hold back. "My dad's gone missing."

This made Dermot serious too. It was her dad, after all. If something happened, it’d hit Evelyn hard.

"Don’t sweat it, Mr. Kyte might be okay. We’ll find him," Dermot sat next to Evelyn, trying to calm her down.

Evelyn nodded, keeping it together. "I’m good, don’t worry."

Even though she was freaking out inside, she kept her cool. The main thing now was to find her dad.

Once the info came through, Evelyn didn’t waste time chatting with Dermot and dove right into the docs.
