Chapter 1039 Damn Dermot

Aidan seemed to get what Evelyn was saying. His face softened. "You're right. I was too aggressive. If I force them apart, he'll hate me."

Aidan had thought about taking action against Lily but hadn't done anything yet.

Now, Evelyn's words made sense to him.

He didn't really want to fight with Niall.

"Yeah, let's wait and see," Evelyn said, relieved Aidan was listening.

Switching topics, Aidan remembered seeing Evelyn talking to Dermot in the garden earlier and frowned. "What's Dermot's deal? Why does he live next door?"

"He..." Evelyn hesitated.

"He hasn't given up yet?" Aidan asked. He thought Dermot would back off since Evelyn moved in with Joshua.

The doctor had said they didn't know when Joshua might recover. If he never did, Evelyn would have to stay by his side indefinitely. That kind of endless waiting was tough; giving up early might be the best choice.

Talking about this made Evelyn sigh. She glanced outside and saw Dermot. "No."

Evelyn felt conflicted. She didn't want to hold Dermot back but also didn't want him to give up.

"What about you? Do you want to be with him?" Aidan asked directly.

Evelyn didn't answer.

Aidan snorted, "If you really like him, don't worry about Joshua. He won't die anyway." He didn't want his sister wasting her life.

Aidan used to think Joshua was a good guy, but now he seemed like a bad one.

Evelyn was shocked by his words. "Aidan, Joshua saved my life."

"So what? Does that mean you have to sacrifice your whole life?" Aidan scoffed.

Evelyn pressed her lips together, unsure what to say. "I understand, Aidan. Don't worry. I'll handle it."

Aidan wanted to ask how she planned to handle it but decided not to push her.

"Alright, let's drop it," Aidan sighed.

Evelyn nodded and quietly helped out.

Upstairs in the study, Joshua listened to Brandon's report, his expression growing darker.

"Is there really no way to bribe Leon?" Joshua asked, not wanting to give up.

"Yeah, it's almost impossible," Brandon had investigated. A top doctor like Leon was basically unbribable.

Joshua's face was grim, his hatred growing. "Damn it, Dermot is doing this on purpose, isn't he?"

"Don't overthink it. He probably hopes you'll recover soon and leave Ms. Kyte, which is why he's so eager to find you a doctor," Brandon could understand some of Dermot's reasons, though he felt disdain.

Brandon just couldn't see what was so great about Evelyn that everyone liked her.

If it were him, he would have just shot her.

"I see," Joshua understood Dermot's intentions, which troubled him.

As long as he didn't recover, Dermot wouldn't give up.

Joshua had managed to get rid of Leon today, but who knew how many more Dermot would send tomorrow.

"Mr. Garcia, maybe we should consider leaving," Brandon cautiously suggested.
