Chapter 1222: Oscar Treats to Dinner
Oscar chuckled, "Oh, I get it. You're totally hung up on that Dermot guy. Seriously, what's so special about him?"
"You wouldn't get it," Evelyn shot back, doubting that someone like Oscar, who grew up in the Flores family, could ever grasp what love really was.
And she was spot on; Oscar didn't get it, nor did he care to.
If love meant turning into someone like Nathaniel, Oscar would rather skip it altogether.
"Alright, I'm here to take you out for dinner," Oscar said, dropping the jokes.
Evelyn checked the time; it was dinner time, but she already had plans with Dermot. "No need, we're just business partners. You don't owe me anything."
"I just admire you. As your stepbrother, I should treat you to a meal," Oscar said with a grin, the word "stepbrother" making Evelyn's skin crawl.
She glared at him, "Cut the crap. I don't have a brother as old as you."
"Oh? Why don't you ask Bella? I bet she'd call me her son," Oscar said confidently, still smiling.
Evelyn rolled her eyes. Oscar had always been a jerk to Bella, so there was no way she'd acknowledge him as her son.
Evelyn waved him off, "Get lost, I don't have time to eat with you."
"Evelyn, let's have dinner together," Oscar winked, a playful glint in his eye.
Evelyn felt a chill run down her spine, looking at Oscar like he was some kind of demon. "What do you really want?"
"Nothing much, just wanna get along better and keep in touch. After all, we're siblings," Oscar said.
Evelyn stayed silent.
She didn't trust Oscar. After thinking it over, she figured he probably felt he couldn't fully control the Flores family and wanted to get on better terms with her. With the Kyte family's support, he'd have more pull in the Flores family.
Just then, Dermot walked in. His expression changed the moment he saw Oscar, "What are you doing here?"
"Hey, Dermot. Perfect timing, let's have dinner together," Oscar said, still smiling, not a hint of anger despite Dermot's cold look.
Dermot looked puzzled.
He glanced at Evelyn, as if asking what was going on.
Evelyn shook her head, indicating she had no clue either.
"Evelyn, Dermot, come on, let's have dinner together," Oscar said again, looking somewhat hurt.
Dermot walked over to Evelyn, his cold expression softening a bit. "Alright."
Oscar clapped his hands, "Great, let's go. I've already made reservations."
With that, Oscar turned and walked out, with Dermot and Evelyn trailing behind.
"Dermot, why did you agree to this?" Evelyn asked, suspicious of Oscar's intentions.
Dermot didn't seem to mind. He put his arm around Evelyn and whispered, "We both know what he's up to. It doesn't affect us, so why not?"
"But..." Evelyn didn't want to have anything more to do with the Flores family.
"Evelyn, do you really think your mom doesn't care about Oscar at all?" Dermot suddenly asked, leaving Evelyn stunned.
