Chapter 1288: It's Just Some Trouble at Home.
Aidan and Niall might bicker like cats and dogs, but deep down, Aidan held both Niall and Evelyn close to his heart.
Aidan had been a lone wolf since he was a kid, taken in by Evelyn's grandpa. To him, Evelyn and Niall were his ride-or-die crew.
So, when Niall almost got into deep trouble 'cause of Lily, Aidan was fuming. Not pushing for their breakup was him being chill, believe it or not.
"Chill out, Aidan. I get it, you care about Niall, but stressing over it ain't gonna change squat. It's up to Niall. If he's ready to go all in for Lily, our opinions don't mean jack," Evelyn said. She was starting to think Niall might be head over heels for Lily.
I mean, who risks their neck for someone they don't care about, right?
Evelyn used to think Niall and Lily would eventually split over some dumb fight. But now, she felt like she was living in a fantasy.
"No way he's that dumb. After this mess, he'll see Lily ain't the one for him," Aidan said, sounding sure of himself.
Evelyn wasn't as hopeful but kept her mouth shut. No point in arguing now; better to wait till Niall woke up.
Evelyn wanted to stick around the hospital with Aidan, but Dermot wasn't having it.
"Aidan's got this. We should head back and get some rest," Dermot said.
Aidan chimed in, "Dermot's right. Go home and rest up. We don't know when Niall's waking up. I'll have someone hit you up when he does."
"But Niall..."
"Staying here won't wake him up any faster. It's pointless," Aidan said.
Evelyn sighed and agreed. Better to be rested for when Niall came to.
From Aidan's tone, she could tell the dude who stabbed Niall wasn't just some random thug.
As Evelyn and Dermot left the hospital, they spotted Lily at the entrance, on the phone and looking wrecked.
"Why would you do this to me? Aren't I your daughter too? Just to help your useless son, you'd throw me under the bus? Do you even know what those people are like and what I'll go through?" Lily was crying and yelling.
Evelyn couldn't hear the other side of the convo, but she figured Lily's parents were cold as ice.
Anyone with a shred of decency wouldn't pull a stunt like that.
Lily hung up and turned around, spotting Evelyn nearby. She looked embarrassed, realizing Evelyn probably heard everything.
Evelyn felt awkward too. "Sorry, I didn't mean to eavesdrop..."
"It's cool. Just family drama. I'm used to it," Lily said with a bitter smile. Her family had been treating her like dirt for years, and she should've been numb to it by now.
If Lily hadn't met Niall and stopped sending cash to her family, they might not have decided to sell her out.
Lily remembered Aidan's words. "Are you sure this won't happen again?"
How could she be sure?
She couldn't be sure.
The more Lily thought about it, the more hopeless she felt.
