Chapter 995: Open Fire

The door swung open, and the guy from before walked in, glaring at Evelyn. "Ms. Kyte, let Dermot come save you."

Evelyn frowned. "Kidnapping again?"

Was Randy ever going to stop? The Doyle family just took a big hit, and now they were after her again. Weren't they worried about going broke?

"Ms. Kyte, you're important to Dermot, so we had to find you," the guy said.

Evelyn eyed him, a bit skeptical. "Are you really working for Randy Doyle?"

She had a feeling Randy wouldn't act this fast. The Doyles were in a tough spot. If they made a move now, their chances didn't look good.

This didn't seem like Randy's style.

"Who I work for is none of your business," the guy said.

Evelyn stared at him for a bit, then looked down and stopped talking.

"Not talking is fine. We've already told Dermot. He should be here soon. But who knows if he'll be as lucky as last time." With that, the guy left.

Evelyn stared at the closed door, feeling something was off.

Would Randy really use the same trick twice?

But if it wasn't Randy, then who?

Even though the guy didn't directly admit he worked for Randy, his words hinted at it.

Evelyn thought hard. No matter who he worked for, they had bad intentions. She needed to escape.

But when she tried to stand, her whole body ached, her vision blurred, and her head throbbed, making it impossible to move.

Outside, as the guy came out, someone approached him. "Everything's set. Mr. Garcia will be back soon. He told us to stay undercover."

"Don't worry. When have we ever let him down?" the guy said.

But he felt a bit uneasy. "Why do you think Mr. Garcia went through all this trouble?"

"Isn't it obvious? He wants to play the hero," someone said.

"I heard from Mr. Hughes that Mr. Garcia is head over heels for this woman," another person added.

Everyone nodded, having heard similar rumors.

Just then, a text alert sounded. The guy checked his phone, and his face turned serious. "Get ready; it's starting."

With that, everyone scattered and began to follow the plan.

Inside, Evelyn was still figuring out how to escape when she heard a noise from the window. She turned, feeling nervous.

But soon, Joshua's face appeared. "Joshua? How did you..."

"Shh. Those people are outside. Let's leave quietly," Joshua said, cutting her off. He climbed in through the window, picked up Evelyn, and prepared to leave.

He carefully placed Evelyn outside the window. Just as he was about to climb out, the door was kicked open. "Who's there?"

"Guys, open fire!" Gunfire erupted instantly.

Evelyn, hiding under the window, felt her heart race. Not seeing Joshua come out, she got anxious. "Joshua?"

She couldn't wait any longer. She stood up and looked inside, seeing Joshua exchanging fire with the men.

She saw blood on his arm; he had been shot. "Joshua, be careful!"

"Get down, don't move!" Joshua shouted at her.
