Chapter 69 I'm afraid I'll disappoint you
After taking down the three men, Evelyn stepped on one of their faces and finally had the time to turn around and look at Dermot and Keith. "I told you earlier. You didn't need to save me."
Dermot and Keith: "..."
At this moment, the same word popped up in both of their minds: fierce.
Yes, fierce.
They had never seen a woman fight so fiercely in all their years.
Evelyn couldn't be bothered with them and instead looked down at the man beneath her feet, "Make a phone call to your employer."
The man did not move, displaying loyalty.
However, Evelyn sneered. Without any hesitation, a knife appeared in her hand and she slashed the man's arm.
"Ah!" The man cried out in pain.
"Make the call." Evelyn crouched down, her voice chilling like a devil. "Guess where I'll make my next cut?"
"I'll make the call, I'll make the call," the leader nodded repeatedly, gasping for breath from the pain.
Satisfied, Evelyn nodded. None of these three were professional kidnappers, so there was no surprise in them betraying their employer.
She dialed the number, and after a few beeps, a voice came through the line.
"Is the job done? Send me the video." A female voice came through, tinged with a mix of anxiety and joy.
No one answered her, and Evelyn didn't rush to respond either. Instead, she looked towards Dermot, not far away, with a slight smirk, as if laughing without smiling.
Dermot's face visibly soured when he heard the voice on the other end of the phone. He was even a little afraid to meet Evelyn's gaze.
The person on the other end of the phone couldn't wait for a response and grew impatient, "Is the job done or not? If you dare not do it after taking my money, I won't let you off."
Evelyn's expression remained unreadable as she answered the call. "It's done. You'll receive the video soon."
Picking up the phone from the ground, she smiled and said, "I'm afraid I will disappoint you, Ms. Ackers."
A gust of wind blew through the warehouse, making a loud noise, but it was unusually quiet on the other end of the phone.
"What Ms. Ackers? You've got the wrong person," the other person hurriedly found an excuse, only now realizing that they should speak in a disguised voice.
Unfortunately, this was just a cover-up.
The phone hung up, but Evelyn didn't mind. She already knew who the mastermind behind it was.
Clapping her hands, Evelyn kicked the boss unconscious, then turned to Dermot and said, "Leave these three to Mr. Doyle. I'm sure Mr. Doyle knows what to do."
"Oh, don't forget to get the money back. I don't want to owe Mr. Doyle any favors for no reason," she said with a smile. After all, it was six million dollars.
She said it with a smile, but Dermot could feel the coldness in her words.
The kidnapping was Cassie's plan, and he was involved with Cassie...
"I don't know anything about this," Dermot said.
Evelyn shrugged, seemingly unconcerned. "It doesn't matter. I don't care."
"Evelyn..."
"Oh, Mr. Doyle, remember to send Ms. Ackers a message for me," she turned to Dermot, saying with a faint smile, "I will get even with her."
"Keith...,"
"Keith, will you take me back to the city?" she asked.
Keith nodded, "With great pleasure."
It is really a good show today.
Dermot had been running around for so long, not only did he not receive Evelyn's gratitude, but it seemed like she had become hostile towards him.
Would this be considered a stroke of luck for him?
Thinking this way, Evelyn had already gotten into the car. He hurriedly sat in the driver's seat, ready to start the car and leave.
Suddenly, he felt that leaving like this was a bit off. He looked at Dermot and deliberately said, "Goodbye, Mr. Doyle. I'll take Evelyn back, and you can stay to handle the follow-up matters."
Dermot could easily see the provocation in his eyes, but at this point, even if he saw it, what could he do?
The development of the situation was beyond his expectations. He never expected that it would ultimately be Cassie who made the move.
Evelyn already misunderstood his relationship with Cassie, and now she would probably think that he was also involved.
Rubbing his temples, he felt annoyed and had a headache.
