Chapter 1211: I Won't Die

Evelyn's words hit Cassie like a ton of bricks, and her face went ghostly white.

She bit her lip. "My brother will clear everything up, and I'm sure he'll back us up."

"Really?" Evelyn arched an eyebrow. "If you're so confident, why'd you come to see me today?"

"Obviously, I came to the hospital for a check-up, duh," Cassie shot back, rolling her eyes, which made Evelyn chuckle.

Cassie then pulled out her medical records and handed them to Evelyn. "You did my last surgery, Dr. Kyte. I totally trust you, so I'm hoping you'll keep handling my care."

Evelyn skimmed through the records, her tone flat. "Everything looks stable. No big issues. What's bugging you?"

"I'll need regular check-ups. Since you're at Golombia Hospital, I'll come straight to you if I feel off," Cassie said with a smile.

Evelyn set the records down and nodded. "Alright. As a doctor, I take every patient seriously."

"Dr. Kyte, you're quite the dedicated doc, huh?" Cassie said with a hint of sarcasm.

Evelyn, not wanting to waste more time, asked, "Anything else? If not, you can leave. I've got other patients waiting."

"Evelyn, are you really not worried?" Cassie finally blurted out.

Evelyn looked up and sneered, "What do you think?"

"Why aren't you worried? My family used to be beneath yours, so I couldn't compete with you. But now it's different. I'm from the Bush family, and my status is on par with yours." Cassie was sure she could compete with Evelyn for Dermot.

Evelyn rolled her eyes and shrugged. "If you're so sure, then go for it."

If Dermot ended up with her, Evelyn wouldn't care; she'd just chalk it up to a bad call on her part.

"Don't worry, I will. Hope you won't cry too hard when it happens." Cassie snorted, then got up to leave.

Watching her go, Evelyn decided to give her a little warning. "Cassie, it's not easy for you and Leonard to get where you are now. If I were you, I'd live a good life and not mess with people I shouldn't. Otherwise, you might end up with nothing."

Cassie paused, gritted her teeth, and left without a word.

Maybe Evelyn had a point, but Cassie had worked too hard to give up on Dermot now.

After Cassie left, Evelyn immediately put her out of her mind. She trusted Dermot to handle it and didn't plan to waste any energy on it.

She still had to keep an eye on Nathaniel. She didn't think he'd give up easily and might already be plotting his next move.

And she was right. Nathaniel had another plan, but this time, he didn't need a bunch of lackeys, just himself. In the room, Nathaniel hadn't fully recovered yet, and Oscar was already standing by his bed. "Dad, you okay?"

"Don't worry, I won't die." Nathaniel said, struggling to sit up, then looked at Oscar.

After a moment, he caught his breath and finally spoke, "Do you know why I called you here?"
