Chapter 1240: Ava Has Returned
Dermot gave her a look, all soft and mushy. "Evelyn, thanks a ton."
He wasn't dumb; he knew why Evelyn was on board.
"Didn't you say we didn't need to be all formal? Why can't you stick to that now?" Evelyn shot him a glare, finally getting what Dermot felt earlier.
Dermot chuckled, "Yeah, my bad."
They kept chatting and laughing, while outside, news about the Bush family spread like wildfire.
In the end, Dermot snagged the Bush Group, and Leonard and Cassie bailed from Golombia with the cash from selling their shares.
But before they split, Leonard actually hit up Evelyn and asked to meet.
When Evelyn got Leonard's call, it had been a week since she and Dermot got out of the hospital. She thought Leonard and Cassie would've bounced by now, but nope, Leonard called her up.
Leonard picked a coffee shop across from the hospital, trying to show he wasn't up to anything shady and just wanted a chill meet-up.
Evelyn wasn't buying it. Especially since he told her to keep it on the down-low from Dermot, which was super sketchy.
She rolled up to the coffee shop and spotted Leonard by the window right away.
She walked over and plopped down across from him. "Alright, spill it. What do you want?"
Leonard put down his cup.
Evelyn noticed he seemed in better spirits than before. Looked like he was doing fine without the Bush family.
But she didn't care about that; she just wanted to know what Leonard was after.
"Ms. Kyte, don't get me wrong. I'm not here to cause trouble. I just wanted to thank you for what you did before, so I brought some info for you," Leonard said.
Evelyn frowned, her gut telling her this wasn't gonna be good.
"Do you know this person, Ms. Kyte?" Leonard asked, pulling a photo from his bag and handing it to her.
Evelyn glanced at it, and her face got serious. "Ava?"
"Looks like you know about Dermot and Ava," Leonard said, not surprised.
Evelyn wasn't dumb; it made sense she knew some stuff.
But Evelyn shook her head. "I know a bit."
"It's nothing major. Dermot liked Ava, but she didn't go for him," Leonard said.
Evelyn stayed quiet, so Leonard kept going, "I was Dermot's right-hand man back in the day. He had just started college when he met Ava."
Evelyn knew this; Dermot went to college abroad and met Ava there.
But in the end, Dermot came back home, and Ava didn't.
"Dermot had to come back to take over the Doyle family, but Ava didn't want to, so she dumped him," Leonard continued.
Evelyn pursed her lips, not shocked by this.
"So, what's your point?" Evelyn asked.
"Ava's back and hit me up," Leonard said.
This time, Evelyn was the one who was shocked.
It was hard not to feel a bit uneasy. Evelyn and Ava did look kinda similar. Even though Dermot said he didn't see Evelyn as a stand-in, she couldn't help but wonder.
But she didn't care. She felt that even if they looked a bit alike, they were totally different people.
