Chapter 559 You Have More Than One Daughter
Blake halted Evelyn's attempt to close the door, his lips curling into a wry smile. "I'll stop. I promise, I won't say another word."
Evelyn, mollified by his words, didn't proceed to shut him out. "Fine, then retreat to your hotel. If I require assistance, I'll reach out to you."
Blake found her statement peculiar. "Why would I opt for a hotel when you have a residence here?" he asked, his intentions of staying at a hotel non-existent.
Evelyn balked at the suggestion. "You wish to stay with me?" The idea was foreign to her. She was unaccustomed to sharing her space, and her dwelling was too cramped to accommodate Blake.
Blake, however, was unfazed. "I'm your father. Is it so outrageous for me to stay with you for a few days?"
Evelyn's concern wasn't about his presence but his comfort. "It's not that you can't stay with me. I'm just apprehensive about your comfort. My place is minuscule compared to the Kyte family estate." She believed Blake should stay in a five-star hotel, not her humble abode.
Blake, however, was steadfast. "I'll reside here. I'm not as fragile as you perceive. Do you think I can't endure a modest dwelling?" He had endured harsher conditions before his financial status improved. Hefting his suitcase, Blake stepped into Evelyn's tidy and snug home, appreciating her love for her life despite her tough exterior.
"Which room is mine?" he inquired, not presuming to wander on his own.
Given that Blake was already inside, Evelyn felt it would be improper to turn him away, so she directed him to the guest room.
Once he had settled in, Blake returned to the living room. "Aren't you going to show me around? This is where you were raised, after all."
"Actually, I was raised in Tara Village. I relocated to Moris City after my grandfather's demise," Evelyn corrected him, a fact Blake should have remembered.
His face flushed with a hint of embarrassment at her words. "Oh, right. My memory has failed me there."
"Are you intending to visit Tara Village during your stay?" Blake queried. "I owe your grandfather a great deal. I'd like to pay my respects." Without her grandfather, Blake doubted whether Evelyn would have survived the trials of her past.
"In a few days. I need to sort out some affairs with the hospital first." She was uncertain when she would return after this departure, but she was resolute about visiting.
Blake nodded, not pressing the matter further. "So, after returning to Columbia, do you plan on continuing your medical career? I see you've launched your own company."
Evelyn admitted, "I haven't decided yet. If the company can function without me, I'd still prefer to work in a hospital." She cherished her role as a doctor, but life often didn't align with her desires. All she could hope for was that Sarah and Luke could manage the company effectively, allowing her to pursue her passion.
"Being a doctor is strenuous. Perhaps you should consider overseeing your company," Blake suggested. 'After all, if Evelyn returns to medicine, who will assume control of the Kyte Group?'
As if sensing his thoughts, Evelyn asserted, "I have no interest in your Kyte Group. Even if I didn't own my company, I wouldn't want to succeed you." She harbored the belief that her Evelyna Fashion Group might one day overshadow the Kyte Group.
"The Kyte Group is yours. If not you, then who?" Blake retorted, his irritation simmering beneath the surface. He couldn't fathom why Evelyn always seemed to contradict him. His patience had grown over the years; in his youth, this conversation might have ignited a fiery outburst.
Evelyn chuckled, her words hinting at another option. "You know you have more than one daughter," she reminded him, alluding to Lucia, who was eager to step into the role.
