Chapter 1300: Come Here, Don't Be Silly
Lily got found pretty quick, but man, the spot was a nightmare.
Evelyn grabbed Niall and bolted over as soon as she got the call, her mind racing, 'Lily, please be okay!'
She couldn't even picture what Niall would turn into if something happened to Lily.
A few minutes later, they pulled up in front of this tall building.
There was already a crowd gathered, and the fire truck had the safety mat out. It was clear what was going down.
When Evelyn told Niall they found Lily, he let out a breath of relief, but now he was practically sprinting upstairs.
"Lily!" he yelled.
Seeing him dash for the stairs, Evelyn yanked him into the elevator. Who knew how long he'd take climbing up?
"Niall, chill out. If you lose it, how are you gonna calm Lily down?" Evelyn worried Niall's freak-out would just set Lily off more.
Niall got the hint and tried to pull himself together.
When the elevator doors opened, they were on the rooftop. A firefighter was already trying to talk Lily down.
But Lily was in a dark place. She felt like she never should've been born.
Maybe dying was her fate.
She didn't think she deserved happiness.
Even though Lily had psyched herself up, her heart still pounded when she saw Niall.
"Lily!" Niall called out, "Don't do anything crazy. We can fix this."
"Niall, I'm sorry," Lily said with a sad smile. They couldn't get the pain she was in.
Niall didn't want to hear her apologies and started to move toward her, but Lily stopped him. "Don't come any closer, or I'll jump."
Niall froze, trying to find the right words to make her stop.
Evelyn stepped up and sighed, "I've already dealt with your parents. They won't bother you anymore."
"What? Really?" Lily looked at Evelyn, not quite buying it.
"Yeah, it's true. I was gonna tell you tomorrow, but who knew..." 'Who knew you'd be in such a rush,' Evelyn thought.
Luckily, Lily hesitated. If she had jumped right away, no one could've saved her.
Evelyn's words gave her a sliver of hope. Maybe Evelyn really had fixed it?
But she knew her parents too well to think they'd just back off that easily.
"Evelyn, how did you get them to give up?" Lily asked.
Evelyn chuckled, "Why would I even try to persuade them? I didn't. I used force. People like your parents don't get it with kind words. You gotta scare them, make them realize you're not someone to mess with, so they back off."
Lily was too nice, which is why her parents kept squeezing money out of her.
Even though she had fought back over the years, it never worked, and she always gave in.
Evelyn wasn't like that.
Lily was quiet. She knew Evelyn was right.
Only by making them scared would they stop showing up.
"Lily, come here. Don't do anything stupid. We've got so many good days ahead," Niall pleaded again.
Lily seemed to be coming around.
She wanted a happy life too. If her parents left her alone, she and Niall could be happy.
In a flash, Niall rushed over and hugged her tight.
Holding Lily close, he finally felt relieved. "Lily, you're such an idiot! How could you do this to me?"
"I'm sorry..." Lily buried her head in his chest. She really had no other way, which is why she did this.
