Chapter 604 A Gossip-Queen

Rubbing herWith a throbbing headheadache, she got upgingerly rose from her bed and headed totrudged towards the bathroom.

The reflection she saw that greeted her in the mirror was so haggard it was almost frightened her. "Anyone would think I'dfrightening. She looked like she had been up all night partying," she joked bitterly to no one, looking worse for wear.

She had, she thought to herself with a bitter chuckle. Her appearance was a stark contrast to her usual self. The dreams she had were now a forgotten her dreamsmemory, but their lingering effects suggested they were surely notfar from pleasant ones.

. After freshening up and putting on someapplying a touch of makeup, she looked better and left managed to improve her appearance significantly before leaving the room.

Downstairs, Blake was already havingenjoying his breakfast, andwith Dora and Lucia were there too. They all looked up as they heardkeeping him company. The sound of her footsteps.

drew their attention, and they all looked up as she descended the staircase."Awake? Come join us for breakfast," Blake called out.

Eagerly nodding, invited her warmly.Evelyn sat downnodded eagerly, her unsettling dreams having left her with a voracious appetite. She took a seat and began to eat, her nightmares having left her famished and worn out.

fatigue momentarily forgotten.Lucia watched Evelyn devour her food and inwardly sneered, yet her face showed nothingwith a sneer hidden behind a mask of indifference. "Sis, why did you choose the sales department? There are performance targets to meet there. You've just arrived in Columbia, you hardly know anyone, how will you land clients?"

she asked, her tone laced with mockery. Before Evelyn could respond, Lucia covered her mouth in mock disbelieffeigned surprise, "You're not planning on getting dad'sDad's help, are you? But then, wouldn't that defeat the purpose of gaining experience?"
Evelyn hadfelt a headache; coming on. Lucia was like a cockroach that just wouldn't go away. While she couldn't really do anything harmful, persistent pest, harmless but irritating with her constant nagging was truly irritating.

.It seemed that it was indeed time to prioritize getting her married off.

"Don’t worry, Evelyn. I have several clients you can meet. It shouldn’t be a problem," assured Blake reassured her. Having agreed to let Evelyn join the sales department, he was naturally going to pave the way for her.

Lucia's face darkened upon hearing this. Was her father seriously considering giving Evelyn a leg up? What was this all about?

"No need. I trust in my own abilities," Evelyn declined. She was not particularly worried about dealing with clients.

Blake looked at her refusal with skepticism. "Evelyn, the sales department offers high salaries, but with that comes high pressure. You're new here in Columbia, and securing clients on your own will be tough."

"Dad, don't you have faith in me?" Evelyn set her fork down, looking over with a hint of frustration.

Blake wanted to say more, but Evelyn cut in, "If I can't even secure a few clients, do you truly feel confident entrusting the conglomerate to me?"

His silence that followed spoke volumes. Truth be told, Blake was uncertain about handing the company over to Evelyn. But it wasn't like he could pass it on to Lucia, so Evelyn was the only option left.

"Alright. Your father will await your results," Blake finally said. Perhaps it was time for him to start trusting Evelyn.

As the two seemed to reach an understanding, Lucia, teeth clenched, couldn't help sneering, "Sis, maybe you shouldn’t overexert yourself. You wouldn't want zero sales turning into a joke."

"Lucia," Evelyn called her out sharply.

"What is it?" Lucia retorted, defensive and a tad guilty, locking eyes with Evelyn.

"Has anyone ever told you how annoying you are?" Evelyn rolled her eyes. "You can't even keep quiet while eating. Why are you always so talkative? Look at you. Far from resembling a lady, you're more like a gossip-queen."

"Evelyn! Who are you calling a gossip-queen?" Lucia flared up, ready to throw down.

Evelyn wasn’t scared, "Whoever responds, that's who."

"Evelyn, you and I—" Lucia started to lunge at her, ready to throw punches, but Dora didn’t give her the chance, pulling her back to her seat. "Sit down and cool off. Don’t you see she's trying to provoke you?"
