Chapter 819 An Unexpected Change
Dermot chuckled, raising his hands to show he meant no harm.
He walked slowly toward Eugene. Just as the guarantee was about to land in Eugene's hands and everyone thought it was over, something unexpected happened.
"He can't really believe it, can he? Even with all these witnesses, who genuinely wants to help the Roberts family? This guy's too naive," a voice from the crowd said, not loud but cutting through the quiet hall.
Eugene was about to grab the guarantee, but his expression changed instantly when he heard that. He pulled Evelyn back a few steps, agitated.
"Naive? Yeah, I'm naive." He laughed maniacally. Deep down, he knew the guarantee was shaky, but what choice did he have? Was he really going to die with Evelyn?
He didn't want to die today.
But now, he seemed enraged. "Fine, let's perish together then."
Without waiting for Evelyn to react, he moved to press the activation button.
Evelyn couldn't wait any longer. She broke free from his grip and tried to snatch the remote from Eugene's hand.
But Eugene wasn't about to let her succeed. He was about to press the button right in front of her.
"Everyone, get back!" Evelyn shouted, but she still rushed forward.
Dermot got there first and reached out to Eugene. The sound of bones breaking echoed through the hall.
Eugene's cry of pain filled the room, but no one cared. All eyes were on the remote in his hand.
Seeing the remote taken away, everyone breathed a sigh of relief. Some cried, some laughed, as if they had just survived a life-and-death ordeal.
Evelyn looked at Dermot with a complicated expression, somewhat resentful. "Who told you to rush forward? Weren't you afraid of being blown up?"
"And what about you? You didn't plan to escape either, did you?" If he hadn't rushed forward, Evelyn would have, just a few seconds slower. And who knew what could happen in those few seconds?
Evelyn pursed her lips and muttered, "Of course, this is my family's banquet; I can't escape."
If she ran, what would people say about the Kyte family afterward?
"The Kyte family isn't more important than your life." Dermot looked at her, a bit unhappy. To him, nothing was more important than her. But now, she didn't escape because of the Kyte family, which made him unhappy.
However, he didn't have the right to say it out loud.
Evelyn wanted to say something, but Blake and Joshua had already walked up to her, so she didn't say anything more to Dermot, just softly said, "Thank you."
Dermot smiled involuntarily, feeling a bit better.
"Evelyn, are you okay?" Joshua had already reached Evelyn's side, asking with some concern.
If Dermot hadn't stepped in, he was actually ready to rush forward, but he didn't get the chance.
Evelyn shook her head. "I'm fine. Tell the guests not to leave in a hurry. Wait for the cops to come in and defuse the bomb before leaving."
Eugene had been subdued. He stared blankly around, looking like a fool.
Evelyn didn't plan to pay him any more attention. Whatever his fate would be, the cops would judge. After all, it wouldn't be a good outcome.
As for those guests who were hit by the explosion, no one knew their conditions.
