Chapter 924 I Overthought
Since Dermot said this, Todd didn't push further, trusting Dermot knew what he was doing. "About the Doyle family, you asked me to approach the shareholders to buy their shares, but it didn't go well. Most of them don't want to sell."
The Doyle Group was profitable, so no one wanted to sell their lucrative shares, even at a high price.
"Yeah, that's expected." Dermot wasn't bothered. The Doyle Group seemed fine now, but once they hit trouble, those shareholders would be eager to sell.
"Any updates on those projects I had you check out? The Doyle Group is huge, and I doubt the Doyle family is squeaky clean."
It was just a matter of time to investigate, and Dermot had plenty of it. He believed he'd eventually find something.
Todd nodded and handed over a document. "Two of the projects have issues. I've marked them for you."
"Okay, leave it here." Dermot nodded, not surprised.
"Are you planning to use these problems against the Doyle family? Isn't your goal to inherit from them? If you oppose them, will you still want to inherit when their family is in chaos?"
Dermot chuckled and looked at Todd. "Do you really think I make impulsive decisions?"
Todd was taken aback and quickly shook his head. "Sorry, Mr. Doyle, I overthink things."
After working for Dermot for years, he should've known better. How could he ask such a dumb question?
"Go ahead and get busy." Dermot didn't mind. He knew why Todd thought that way. Todd believed the Doyle family was powerful and doubted his own ability to contend with them.
Now the Doyle family was just a hollow shell, corrupt to the core. Seizing this chance to get rid of these parasites was smart. Dermot believed the Doyle family he would eventually lead would be great.
After Todd left, Dermot continued his work. He sent a message to Evelyn, saying he wouldn't be back tonight and telling her to eat on time and rest early. She didn't reply.
At that moment, Dermot didn't know Evelyn had received his takeout but didn't eat it because Joshua had already made plenty of food.
In the kitchen, Joshua was washing dishes.
Evelyn stood awkwardly to the side, feeling a bit guilty. "I made you cook and now wash the dishes. I feel bad asking you to come over next time."
"We're friends. Why let that bother you?" Joshua didn't mind at all; he actually enjoyed it.
Evelyn stood by, wanting to help but realizing she couldn't. "Joshua, you'll definitely be a good husband and father in the future."
Joshua paused while washing the dishes, then smiled. "Really? No one has ever said that to me before."
"Definitely." Evelyn nodded confidently.
From Joshua's skilled movements, it was clear he often cooked and washed dishes at home. Although it wasn't a big deal, Evelyn believed a man willing to cook and wash dishes at home would treat his family well in the future.
"Here's this wonderful guy standing right in front of you; have you thought about getting to know him better?" Joshua teased.
But Evelyn's smiling face suddenly turned serious, clearly taking Joshua's words to heart.
"Joshua, I..."
"The dishes are done. I'll head out now. I'll come next time. You won't refuse, right?" Joshua interrupted her because he didn't want to hear what she was about to say.
Evelyn looked at him and finally swallowed her words. "Of course not. We're family, after all."
Joshua's face stiffened, and he was at a loss for words.
