Chapter 506 I'll Tear You Apart
In the blink of an eye, they were standing in front of Evelyn. Lucia gave her a fierce glare. "So you're Evelyn? As I thought, not fit for the public eye."
"Really? Miss Lucia, you're quite something to deduce that so quickly. I just wonder if your lack of manners actually qualifies you for any public appearance?" Despite the impolite words, Evelyn maintained a smile, which felt unsettlingly out of place.
"You!" Lucia was nearly beside herself with rage. That contemptible woman dared to insult her, even in the Kyte family's presence!
Lucia moved to strike, lashing out. Evelyn stood still; Dora tried to intervene but was too late.
With the speed of Lucia's attack, Evelyn could have easily dodged, yet she chose not to, simply stepping to the side and avoiding a blow to her face.
Lucia's hand connected with Evelyn's back, and with what seemed like too much force, Evelyn stumbled and fell to the ground.
"Lucia!" Dora exclaimed, frustrated by her impulsiveness.
Lucia was about to retort that Evelyn deserved it when a scolding came from behind: "What are you doing? Lucia, have I taught you to behave like this over the years?"
Blake had entered the dining room unnoticed; now, Lucia stood there, defiant, Dora beside her, and only Evelyn was on the floor, the picture of wretchedness.
"Dad! It was her fault—"
"Snap!"
Before Lucia could finish her sentence, Blake had already slapped her across the face. He was profoundly disappointed; he had never imagined his daughters would be so discordant, even to this disheartening extent.
Lucia, who had grown up in the Kyte family, was once not a concern for Blake. Now, he felt he could no longer overlook her behavior, fearing she might one day make an irreparable mistake.
Lucia was stunned; Dora snapped back to reality, her eyes reddening upon seeing her daughter slapped: "Blake! Have you lost your mind? How could you hit Lucia?"
"I hit her because she doesn't respect her elder sister, and that's a reflection of your poor parenting," Blake said. Without a hint of regret, he was convinced Lucia needed to learn her lesson.
Lucia regained her senses and retorted, "Dad, you hit me for that tramp? How could you—"
"Silence!" Blake roared. "She is your sister!"
"I have no sister. My mother only gave birth to me." Lucia didn't care how terrible Blake looked at that moment; she felt wronged and couldn't hold back.
Blake was furious; he felt she might drive him to an early grave with her defiance. "You... you..."
"Ms. Kyte, it seems I'm not exactly welcome here. Maybe I should just go," Evelyn said, rising to her feet - her expression was one of hurt, pulling at Blake's heartstrings.
Seeing Evelyn's downhearted look, so starkly contrasting with Lucia's haughty manner, Blake grew increasingly irate. "Who says you're not welcome? From now on, this is your home. As the lady of the Kyte family, you have every right to command anyone here."
"But what if I'm bullied again? Can I have my bodyguards settle it for me?" Evelyn asked, her eyes earnest as she gazed at Blake.
Blake's lips twitched - his words were out and there was no taking them back. "Of course you can," he assured her immediately.
A smile bloomed across Evelyn's face; she had gotten the answer she was waiting for.
"And you, sis, better not pick on me, or I won't be so polite!" she said laughingly to Lucia. It sounded like a joke, but the earnestness in her eyes said otherwise. She wasn't kidding.
Lucia was infuriated all over again. "You bitch, I'll tear you apart!" Enraged, she lunged at Evelyn.
But this time, Dora caught her in time. "Lucia, calm down," she implored.
Facing the prospect of her daughter lashing out in front of Blake, Dora didn't know what to say for herself.
