Chapter 580 Operation Breakout

The passage of time seemed to stretch on indefinitely, the silence between them growing heavier with each passing second. Just as Ruby was about to shatter the quiet, Craig finally broke it himself. "It's not exactly safe for two girls to be shopping alone. I'll arrange for someone to watch over you."

"Craig..." Ruby began, but he cut her off.

"It's merely protection, nothing more," he insisted, his tone firm.

Ruby, however, was far from convinced. Protection? It was just a euphemism for surveillance in her eyes. She was on the verge of refusal when she caught a subtle signal from Evelyn—a sly wink. Understanding dawned on her, and she acquiesced. "Whatever you think is best."

Once the call ended, Ruby trailed after Evelyn, exiting the sprawling villa. She was acutely aware of Craig's men shadowing them, yet an undercurrent of excitement thrummed within her.

As soon as they were ensconced in the car, Ruby turned to Evelyn, her voice barely above a whisper. "My parents... are they?"

"Relax," Evelyn reassured her, her tone soothing. "Your mom and dad should be in Colombia by now. I came here specifically to pick you up."

The news that her parents were safe prompted a sigh of relief from Ruby. As long as they were out of harm's way, nothing else mattered as much. Casting a worried glance at the two cars tailing them, she voiced her concerns. "Are we sure about this? I mean, if it's too risky, I could…"

"Don't worry. I wouldn't be here if I wasn't confident," Evelyn interrupted, well aware of what Ruby was about to suggest.

Seeing Evelyn's unwavering assurance, Ruby let the matter drop. "Okay."

"We'll head to the mall first. We'll look for an opportunity to slip away and make a beeline for the airport. Everything is set there," Evelyn detailed her plan, hoping to extract Ruby without raising Craig's suspicions or involving Dermot and keeping Blake entirely out of the picture.

Soon, they arrived at the mall. As they meandered through the stores, feigning interest in the clothes, the chief bodyguard relayed their actions to his earpiece. "They're shopping for clothes."

"Keep an eye on them," Craig's voice echoed from the other end, confident yet cautious.

After a while, the two women made their way towards the restroom. Ruby entered first, and Evelyn lingered by the door. Not long after, a few bodyguards approached. "Really? You're even following us here?" Evelyn challenged.

The bodyguard's face twisted in discomfort. "Miss Evelyn, please don't make this hard for us."

"It's not me who's making it hard. I'm looking out for you," Evelyn retorted indifferently. "Have you considered what Craig will think if he finds out you followed Ruby into the restroom?"

Evelyn was confident in her assessment of Craig's character, and his men should have been well aware of that too. As expected, her words hit their mark, and the bodyguards' expressions soured.

"Fine, just stand guard outside the door. We're not going to fly away, are we?" With that, she turned on her heel and disappeared into the restroom, not waiting for a response.

Her earlier reminder would likely deter them from barging in after them. This was precisely the opportunity she and Ruby needed. Evelyn had already scoped out the mall; they could escape through the restroom window. A car was waiting downstairs, ready to whisk them away to the airport as soon as they emerged.

Meanwhile, Craig was still preoccupied, yet he couldn't shake the uneasy feeling that had taken root in him. His assistant chose that moment to enter, casting a tentative glance at his boss. "Mr. Dermot, regarding the Kite family you asked me to watch, there's been some activity."

Craig looked up, his expression turning grim. "The Kite elders caught a flight to Colombia early this morning."

It was usually just Richard visiting Colombia under the company's banner, which hadn't concerned Craig much before, given that Evelyn's mother was still around. But this time, both parents had left together.

The assistant, upon learning this news, didn't dare hide it, promptly rushing over to inform Craig.
