Chapter 1221: I'm Not Interested in You
The call ended, and Dermot unlocked his phone. He couldn't help but crack up when he saw the photo.
Evelyn noticed his laughter and asked, "What's so funny?"
"Check it out online yourself," Dermot replied, thinking it would be more fun for Evelyn to see it herself.
Evelyn didn't waste any time and quickly went online. She soon got why Dermot was laughing.
She clicked on the photo and had to admit it was pretty artsy. She instinctively saved the photo.
"Not bad at all," Evelyn commented as she put away her phone.
Dermot walked over and plopped down next to her, asking, "Todd just called and asked if we should take down the news. What do you think?"
"Up to you. I don't really care," Evelyn replied. Since they were already a couple and the news was true, she didn't mind.
Dermot laughed, getting her point. "Then let it be."
So, people kept buzzing about the hot topic all night until it finally died down the next day.
Evelyn didn't pay much attention to it, but she did notice more people staring at her when she went to the hospital.
When Oscar came to see Evelyn, she had just finished with her last patient. After the patient left, she looked up at Oscar standing nearby.
She looked at him and said, "You don't look so good."
Oscar looked worn out, even sporting some stubble, which was quite different from the Oscar she had seen before.
"My father got arrested. Isn't it normal for me to look like this?" Oscar shot back, sitting down opposite Evelyn.
Evelyn glanced at him, unable to tell if Oscar was genuinely worried about Nathaniel or just putting on a show.
After a long silence, Oscar suddenly asked, "Do you think he'll get the death penalty?"
If Nathaniel were sentenced to life in prison, Oscar wouldn't feel too bad. He thought it was deserved.
But if Nathaniel were sentenced to death...
Oscar had to admit that despite his immense hatred for Nathaniel, he still didn't want him to die.
Evelyn got what he meant but didn't intend to give him any hope. "He will definitely die."
Oscar pressed his lips together, saying nothing.
Evelyn stated, her voice cold, "Even though he's your father, his crimes are undeniable. He deserves what's coming to him."
Oscar, his face etched with a bitter smile, nodded in understanding. "I know, I know. It's just... a lot to process."
"Look," Evelyn said, her tone softening a bit, "I heard he already handed over the Flores family to you. He knew what was coming. Don't beat yourself up about it."
Oscar nodded. "I know. I was just asking."
"So why are you here today? Our cooperation is over. I don't see any reason for us to meet again," Evelyn said coldly.
Oscar chuckled, thinking her attitude had changed too quickly. "Isn't there still the matter of me testifying in court? How is our cooperation over?"
"Even if you don't testify, Nathaniel will still get the death penalty. If you do, it's just your way of getting back at him. Whether you go or not is up to you," Evelyn said with a smile. Oscar hated Nathaniel, and this was his chance for revenge. If he missed it, there wouldn't be another.
Looking at Evelyn, Oscar thought she was really smart. "I suddenly think you're quite nice. How about we..."
"I'm not interested in you," Evelyn shot him down without hesitation.
