Chapter 359 Don't Mind Being Your Substitute?
Natalie was about to explode when she heard Evelyn say that she didn't mind. "Not mind? Even if he really sees you as a substitute, you wouldn't mind?"
She didn't believe anyone could be so generous...
No, it's not generosity, it's stupidity!
"Yes, I don't mind. Do you have anything else to say?" Evelyn glanced at her. She would be crazy to believe Natalie's words.
This woman was clearly up to no good. If Evelyn believed her, it would only result in a big fight and a breakup with Dermot. That's exactly what she wanted, right?
As the door closed, Natalie stared at the tightly shut door.
For a moment, she didn't know what to say.
After a while, she shouted at the door, "Evelyn, I know you don't believe me, but you can go see for yourself. Once you see what that woman looks like, you'll know whether I'm deliberately trying to provoke you and Dermot."
Without waiting for Evelyn's response, Natalie had no choice but to leave, but she didn't feel right in her heart. It was like punching cotton; it didn't feel satisfying.
Once she was sure Natalie had left, Evelyn opened the door and looked at Dermot's house across the hall.
To say she had no doubts in her mind would be impossible, but she couldn't just doubt Dermot because of a few words from Natalie, right?
Sighing, she decided to ignore that woman.
Closing the door, Evelyn prepared to continue reading, but she clearly overestimated herself. She couldn't concentrate on the book at the moment.
Helplessly, she put the book down and left the house.
She needed to go to the police station to see how Robert's interrogation turned out.
Thinking about Robert, Evelyn felt a headache coming on. How should she tell John about this? Would he blame her?
No matter how much of a jerk that man is, he is still John's father. Will John be angry with her for sending him to prison?
With such thoughts, Evelyn drove to the police station.
After getting a general understanding of the situation, she found out that Robert would be charged with attempted murder. Evelyn was somewhat surprised; she thought it would be just assault. After all, there was a significant difference between these two charges.
The police said he would probably be sentenced to more than ten years. Although it was attempted murder, it hadn't caused any substantial harm, so he wouldn't receive a life sentence.
Evelyn didn't have any objections to this outcome; she just struggled with how to break the news to John.
Leaving the police station, Evelyn headed directly to John's school. She couldn't keep it a secret; she had to tell him sooner or later.
It's better to tell him voluntarily than for him to find out later.
When she arrived at the school gate, Evelyn saw John waiting for her. He seemed happy to see her, running over.
"Sis," John said with joy when he saw Evelyn, and he immediately got into the car.
"Get in, I'll take you out for a meal," Evelyn shouted at him.
John opened the car door and got in without asking Evelyn why she had suddenly come to find him.
As the car started, Evelyn took John to a restaurant near the school. Because she had to talk to him about Robert, she specifically chose a private room for a quieter and more convenient conversation.
After ordering the food, Evelyn asked, "How's your studying lately? Are you tired?"
She knew John was a good student; otherwise, he wouldn't have skipped a grade and be in senior year at the age of sixteen. With the college entrance examination approaching this year, the academic pressure was quite high.
"It's going well. The teachers said as long as I maintain my current level, I can get into Columbia University," John said happily. He was pleased with his current state, where he only needed to focus on studying and didn't have to worry about anything else. He felt it was better than before.
Evelyn nodded in satisfaction. She had planned to ask further but John preempted her by asking, "Sis, you came here today because you have something to tell me, right?"
