Chapter 635 Evelyn is Not Simple
Randy gave a nod of acknowledgment before abruptly shifting the conversation. His tone took on a sharp edge as he spoke, "Since the two of you are divorced, it's clear that you were not destined to be together. It would be best to limit your contact in the future."
Evelyn bristled at his words. "Grandpa Doyle, this is a matter between Dermot and myself. You're becoming overly involved." She was already frustrated with Dermot, and Randy's interference only served to heighten her discomfort.
"Dermot is a good lad, competent and understanding. I have high expectations for him, and I don't want him to be disturbed." Randy's voice remained steady despite Evelyn's hostile tone. After all, if he allowed himself to be ruffled by the words of the younger generation, he would have lived his years in vain.
Evelyn was still grappling with the nature of Dermot's relationship with the Doyle family, but she understood Randy's implication. He likely thought she wasn't suitable for Dermot. Considering the prestige of the top ten families in America, with the Doyle family leading and the Kyte family trailing, it was understandable that they might not regard her favorably.
However, she found it peculiar. Based on Randy's words, was he suggesting that Dermot was in line to inherit the Doyle family? Evelyn dismissed this as unlikely unless Randy had lost his senses.
"I understand your perspective. Rest assured, I won't be a bother to anyone." Her message was clear—if Dermot genuinely had no interest in her, she wouldn't pursue him. Conversely, if Dermot did harbor feelings for her, she wouldn't back down merely because of Randy's disapproval.
At this point, Randy finally met her gaze directly. He thought to himself, "You're quite remarkable, I like that."
"I have several grandsons, all of them handsome and well-behaved. Would you consider any of them?" Randy rarely encountered a young woman of Evelyn's caliber, and he was inclined to bring such a person into the Doyle family. He didn't expect her to contribute to the family, but at least she would be clear-headed and not cause any trouble.
Evelyn's lips twitched in amusement. Moments ago, Randy had been discouraging her from pursuing Dermot, and now he was suggesting she consider other members of the Doyle family. She found the old man's behavior perplexing.
"I appreciate your offer, but the threshold of the Doyle family is too high for me to cross." She declined his proposal with a polite smile.
Randy wasn't perturbed by her refusal. He simply responded, "There's no need to rush. Take your time to consider."
Evelyn wanted to assert that she wasn't considering his proposal at all, but she held her tongue. Perhaps he was merely making casual conversation, and there was no advantage in antagonizing him. With that thought, she chose to remain silent.
Having said his piece, Randy dismissed her with a wave of his hand. "Go back and give my regards to your father."
"I'll take my leave then. Please take care of yourself." Evelyn didn't linger. She turned on her heel and swiftly exited Randy's study.
After her departure, an elderly man emerged from the shadows. He approached Randy and patted his back. "Mr. Doyle, she's just a junior member of the Kyte family. There was no need for you to meet her personally."
"Evelyn is far from simple." Randy had met countless people in his lifetime, and he could tell at a glance that Evelyn was not ordinary.
The old butler followed Evelyn's retreating figure with his gaze before shaking his head. "She's just an overreaching junior. You're giving her too much credit."
"Perhaps, but I hope she's not simple." Randy responded, his brow furrowing as he turned to the man behind him. "What do you think Dermot truly feels about her?"
"It's difficult to say. At present, it seems like there are no feelings, but according to the information we've gathered, he did seem to have genuine affection for Evelyn in the past." This wasn't hard to uncover; the city of Moris was rife with such gossip.
