Chapter 272 I’ve No Home
John really didn't know any of this and hadn't even tried. When the teacher asked him why he hadn't been attending class regularly, he simply said he had no other choice.
When it came time to drop out, he simply said he didn't want to continue studying. Despite the teacher's repeated attempts to persuade him, John was determined to leave, and the teacher couldn't do anything about it, so he helped him with the withdrawal process.
"But...I've already dropped out," he said with his head hanging low, feeling a bit regretful.
"I will sort this out for you. Just make sure you report to the school on time, and don't worry too much," Dermot told him.
John looked at the two people in front of him. Even though he wasn't one to cry, his eyes were now slightly red. "Thank you," he said.
"If you really want to thank us, study hard and repay us with your academic achievements," Evelyn said, feeling relieved that he was willing to continue going to school.
John nodded, "I will."
His academic performance had always been good, otherwise he wouldn't have skipped a grade and entered the third year of high school at the age of only sixteen. If nothing goes wrong, he will be taking the college entrance examination next year.
"Work hard and get into a good university. I, your older sister, will buy you a gift as a reward," Evelyn said with a smile, feeling relieved.
After finishing their meal, Evelyn accompanied John to resign from their job. The manager didn't give them a hard time and paid him his salary, encouraging him to do his best.
Coming out of the mall, John got into the car with Evelyn and the others, not knowing where to go.
"Where do you live now?" Evelyn asked.
John looked hesitant, "I used to live in the employee dormitory, but now that I've quit, I don't know where to go."
"Your family..."
"I don't have a family. My father kicked me out," John said with a hint of resentment in his eyes when talking about his father, but it quickly disappeared. He didn't want Evelyn to see the worst side of him.
He didn't tell Evelyn that Jeff not only kicked him out, but also came to him every month asking for money. With his already meager salary, he had to give him some for drinking.
Now that he had quit his job and returned to school, he didn't know if that person would find out. If he found out and came to the school...
John didn't even want to think about how many classmates would mock him behind his back.
But he didn't plan on telling Evelyn any of this. He believed he could handle it.
At this moment, he had made up his mind. No matter how much Jeff tried to make things difficult for him, he had to continue going to school. Only then could he succeed and prove himself to Evelyn.
Evelyn thought for a moment and said, "Why don't you stay at my house for a few days temporarily? Once the procedures at school are done, I'll take you there."
"No!" Dermot interjected before John could respond.
Both of them looked at him, and Dermot said calmly, "You're so busy, so where would you find the time to take care of him? If he stays at your place, he probably won't even have a meal to eat."
"Alright then, I'll arrange a hotel for you. They will deliver three meals to your room every day. Just relax and stay there," he said.
But John felt guilty and cautiously said, "Just arrange a small hotel for me. I can cook for myself."
"Listen to Dermot. For now, you don't have to worry about anything. Rest well for a few days, and then focus on studying when you go back to school," Evelyn agreed with Dermot's suggestion.
After all, she is indeed quite busy and doesn't have time to take care of John.
John nodded, not arguing with them. "Alright, thank you. I will definitely repay you in the future."
Both of them were amused by his words. Evelyn said, "Great, then you go for it. I'll be waiting."
