Chapter 1367 Extra: Aidan and Phoebe (42)
The party kicked off in no time, and that's when Phoebe figured out it was a charity gig, auctioning off stuff guests donated to raise cash for remote areas. She didn't really care; she was just tagging along with Aidan tonight.
"Go mingle. I'll find a spot to chill," she said, not planning to stick to Aidan like glue. She knew these events were all about schmoozing.
Aidan nodded, "Cool, holler if you need anything."
"Got it." After finding her a seat, Aidan dove into the crowd, chatting up the other guests.
Phoebe sipped on some juice, munching on snacks, thinking this wasn't too shabby—free food and all.
But she totally underestimated the drama at these shindigs. Aidan, being the hotshot in Golombia, was a magnet for attention the moment he walked in. Even though she had a baby with him, they weren't hitched yet.
Being a stepmom was no walk in the park, but if the guy was Aidan, plenty of folks were still game.
To snag Aidan, they knew Phoebe was the main hurdle, always glued to his side, making them uneasy. So when he wandered off, a few of them zeroed in on Phoebe and plopped down next to her.
Phoebe could feel their icy stares the second they sat.
"I heard you're from Moris City, Ms. Irvine?" Arlene Hensley piped up first. She was drop-dead gorgeous and, with her looks and family background, totally Aidan's league. But he never gave her the time of day.
Arlene, being a rich heiress, was naturally ticked off about Aidan's rejection. Instead of going after him, she set her sights on Phoebe.
In Arlene's mind, Aidan must've turned her down because he had a thing for Phoebe.
Even though Arlene heard Aidan had also turned Phoebe down, she didn't know the full scoop.
From what Arlene gathered, Phoebe had Aidan's baby and was living with him, which she couldn't stomach.
Phoebe didn't know Arlene but figured anyone at this bash wasn't just anybody. She didn't want to stir up trouble for Aidan, so she nodded, "Yeah, I'm from Moris City."
"Moris City, huh? Pretty small place, right? How's it stack up against Golombia?" Arlene sneered, her eyes full of contempt.
Before Phoebe could answer, someone next to Arlene snickered, "Arlene, you gotta be kidding. How can a tiny place like that compare to Golombia?"
The others laughed too. To them, Phoebe was a nobody.
Phoebe glanced at them, not in the mood to engage. She didn't want to make waves, but Arlene got riled up by her look. "Did we say something wrong? People from small towns don't get what class is. Getting knocked up before marriage, thinking that'll make a guy like you? Pathetic!"
Arlene was already pissed at Phoebe, so she wasn't holding back now.
Phoebe didn't want to cause Aidan any grief, so even though she knew they were mocking her, she brushed it off. But Arlene was pushing it, and Phoebe was starting to lose her cool.
