Chapter 655 This is My Business

The next day, Evelyn drove to the south of the city. She wanted to see the land that the Roberts family had taken pictures of with her own eyes.

Blake had already sent word that he had checked the land, and there were no issues with it. The project was legal, and the location was excellent. Developing it into a commercial center would definitely make money.

Evelyn had also checked yesterday, and the facts indeed confirmed this, but she still felt something was amiss.

If it was really that good, the Roberts family wouldn't be willing to part with it.

With this thought in mind, Evelyn personally went to the construction site. Without seeing it with her own eyes, Evelyn wouldn't feel at ease.

The construction site had not officially started, but workers had already begun to enter. It seemed that the Roberts family was ready to start work.

Could it really be without any issues? Was the Roberts family just looking for a win-win situation?

No, Evelyn still didn't believe it.

The site was not strictly guarded. Taking advantage of the distraction of the workers, Evelyn quietly slipped in to see what was going on inside.

In a corner, Evelyn hid and watched the workers sitting together not far away. They were either playing on their phones or chatting, but no one was working.

Did the Roberts family hire these people not to work?

With doubts in her mind, Evelyn wanted to walk over and see what they were talking about.

Evelyn accidentally bumped into some wood, causing a loud noise as it fell to the ground.

"Who's there?" a reprimanding voice came, and a person playing on their phone not far away sat up, staring sharply in Evelyn's direction.

Was she discovered?

Evelyn had intended to walk out. After all, the person was just a worker, and she should be able to come up with a casual excuse. However, before Evelyn could walk out, she was pulled away by someone. The next moment, darkness surrounded her as she was pulled into a storage room.

Evelyn almost shouted, but upon noticing that the worker outside was about to approach, she suppressed her inner fear and did not make a sound.

As the worker approached closer, Evelyn's heart raced.

"Billy, what's going on?" another person approached.

"I just heard a noise. I'm not sure if someone came in," Billy replied.

"You're overthinking it. It's probably just the wind. Who would come to this dump?" the person grabbed Billy and said, "Let's go, let's get a drink."

"Okay." Billy glanced around and, indeed, saw no one. He must have been overthinking it.

"I don't know why they asked us to guard this place," Billy complained, puzzled.

"Don't worry about it. We were asked to guard, so we guard."

The voices of them faded away, and only then did Evelyn prepare to turn around and see the person behind her.

The storage room was built of wood, allowing light to filter in from the outside. With the filtered light, Evelyn could see clearly who the person was.

However, she was somewhat surprised.

'Dermot?' How could he be here?

Dermot glanced at her, said nothing, and then left the storage room, apparently preparing to leave.

Evelyn was filled with countless doubts and hurried to catch up with Dermot. "What are you doing here?"

This project had nothing to do with the Doyle family, so it was strange for Dermot to be here.

Dermot stopped and looked at Evelyn. "This is my business."

"If you want to make that clear, then why did you just pull me into the storage room? Did you have my consent?" she had planned to go out and chat with those workers for a few moments, maybe get some information.

Dermot seemed to sense Evelyn's thoughts and sneered, "Haven't you realized that those are not real workers?"

Evelyn was stunned and then thought carefully.

Indeed, Billy's vigilance was quite strong, and coupled with their strong physique, they didn't quite resemble workers.
